Sorry if its posted before but i had a skim through last page of 56 (others might have longer pages but i use diff forum settings).

Sins of A Solar Empire: Game Of The Year Edition for £2.95 @ The Hut (PC)
 
It's just an in game overlay, it's no worse than steam.

Maybe it's improved? I'm not sure as I don't have past experience of it.

I have it in Batman:AC and Bulletproof, both run perfectly well and no hiccups or glitches due to the overlay informing me my friends are online or that achievements are unlocked.

Don't know where to start with that really. You must have been very lucky with it because in my experience it's specially designed to make you as frustrated as possible, to the point where I if I'm buying something now, seeing the GFWL logo actually makes me pause and wonder if it's worth it.
 
The initial install was a pain if the game requires you to sign in to get to the menu because you then can't quit out and it won't sign in until you restart it, but alt+f4 fixed that :p
 
I don't see the big fuss with GFWL, i think its just a case of people will moan about anything and everything. As soon as you've done all the updates etc, all you gota do is stick you're username and password in each time you play. No big deal...
