*** PC Gaming - Daily Deals Thread ***

how did you come to that conclusion?

From Steam forums.

If you put the names of these cd key selling sites into a post on the Steam forums, it filters them.

Like this forum changes swearies to ******, Steam forums change the name of cd key selling sites to << UNAUTHORISED RESELLER >>

I know from the replies here that I'm in the minority, but since I have a boatload of legal games on my Steam account I'm not going to jeopardise it by buying from a site Steam has placed on a blacklist.

That thread doesn't say that you get banned though, it only has a filter for the shop name on the forum.

Jesus.

They are filtered because they are competitors. How can you possibly not see that?

Steam want to make money and control the market, that's why they scare people into not buying outside of their channel. It's all business. Nothing could possibly happen to your account.

^^^^^ Exactly, Steam want you to buy from Steam not other places. Same as here we can't say certain sites.

Clearly you've not researched this at all.

If you're going to argue, you should try something first. Google "steam unauthorized reseller" and view some threads.

I'll tell you what will happen.

You will see many, many threads on this subject. In those threads, the following sites will *NOT* be filtered:

greenmangaming, getgamesgo, direct2drive/gamefly, play, amazon, shopto, gog, etc, etc.

You can freely discuss all of those sites.

Try then discussing a site like g2play, or any of the other cd-key scan sites.

They all get filtered. True story.

I shall compile a list of threads, because some of them have Valve input. I'll also start a new thread, because it's not totally on topic here.

Can we keep the whole discussion about the rights and wrong of CD keys and purchasing in other countries in the other thread please, theres no need for it to be in here also.

DW, with all due respect, this is a completely different issue ;) This is about whether cd-key only sites are actually safe to use. These sites scan the codes and email them out, but they also sell the CD and box (often to other people). This means that people who buy the box/CD can attempt to reclaim the account who bought the key, in some cases.

We all know Amazon.com is safe to use :)

I'll go ahead and make a new thread because it doesn't fit in the other one either.

There is a huge thread about this subject on AVForums. One member talked to both Steam and EA about there position with regards to key sites such as CJS-Keys. This is the post which sums most of it up - http://www.avforums.com/forums/15272233-post189.html

To sum it up, Steam are very cagey about what they allow and disallow. They state that "The buying, selling or trading of Steam accounts, games or CD keys is a violation of the Steam Subscriber Agreement." which can get your account banned, but don't seem to back this up with action. But the risk is there.

EA are more easy going. They say that as long as it's a new key and bought/obtained by legitimate means then it's fine. Otherwise they would revoke the key.

Thanks. Going to read that now.

Just bought the NFS bundle from gamestop/impulse and can't seem to find the origin codes any where even though it said they would be sent by email. It just tells me to download the gamestop app?

Also, I already have a copy of one of the games on origin, will I be able to give the new one to a friend via the product code If I don't install using the gamestop app?

Edit.

Seems I get a product code after installing the gamestop app, and it can be redeemed on origin but the game seems to stay in my gamestop app games list.
