It's fun up until you realise the map size is far to small then it becomes a horrible pain in the butt.

You know, if you take XCom: The Bureau for what it is - a linear FPS set in a 50's America being invaded by aliens, it's actually pretty cool. Just nothing like an actual xcom game. Fantastic atmosphere though.

Absolutely not. The map size is restrictive and the underlying mechanics are just fundamentally flawed. I recommend getting one of the earlier Sim City games.

How do Signs of life and Darkout compare to Starbound?

I really enjoy Terraria but Starbound just doesnt click for me but I am on the look out for a new game in this genre!

take a look at the steam store page for it, i liked the look of it too but apparently its not likely to be finished due to the dev going awol.
