There's rumor of a steam sale this month, possibly next week so may be worth waiting until then
It's the Chinese New Lunar Year sale starting on 15th February if I've worked it out right.
Hasn't gone free but has featured pretty cheaply before and has been in a recent HumbleBundle. Dirt 3 Complete Edition was given away for free on Humble store. Not sure about Showdown though, I can't remember how I obtained that.

Completely agree, and the amount of content in the expansions is crazy, they could easily be standalone games. I was just looking at the civ6 expansion that releases this week, and the amount of content you get for the £25 RRP is just laughable in comparison.

Yep in case anyone still needs convincing I also concur - I picked this up for ~£13 in the Halloween sale last year and am just about getting to the end at around the 200hr mark, and enjoyed it very much (though if I could go back in time I'd have installed one of the re-balancing mods I've seen on Nexus because even on the hardest difficulty it got very easy towards the mid-late game)
