PC gaming - I'm a bit disappointed

I think PC gaming at the moment is dead.

Nothing even taking my fancy worth an upgrade. Bring up some amazing MP game, Quake 3 days :(

I doubt it's the video card - I have a 9600GT and it runs everything maxed at 1280x1024....Far Cry 2, Bioshock, etc. Of course, what you consider to be playable might be different to me.

Always makes me chuckle when people call a particular video card a "weak link" when they don't even ask what res it's being used for :o

Even at 1280x1024 a 9600GT is a weak link.

Need for Speed has been poo for a long time now. The very first one on the PS1 was the best I reckon. I can still remember the top speeds of the cars you could drive. The lamborghini was 202mph :D

GTA has never exactly been very efficient. But yeah, the graphics card is the weakspot..
In GTA IV, it depends on your system ;)

People with dual core CPUs are finding their CPU is maxed out but their GPU is not.

People with quad cores are finding their GPU is maxed out but their CPU is not.

The 9600GT is not a high end card but it runs most games maxed out perfectly well. With a quad core CPU, it is the bottleneck with GTA IV, but still gives playable framerates of over 30.

PC gaming shines at high res imo. I'm running at 1920 by 1200 res on a 28 inch hd monitor which i recently bought and games looks simply amazing it beats the poop outta anything current consoles or hd tv's can offer.

what? lol

as far as gtaIV goes, well, its a brand new game. given each of the rest of the series had major issues on release, this one was really going to be no different. they could have done better with the port but im not suprised at all.

Yeah both GTA IV and NFS Undercover have serious issues performance wise. There are plenty of other great games that look and run awesome.
