PC gaming really is in a bad way atm

All comes down to money in the end. The main problem I think is the rising costs in games development. PC's have the edge when it comes to the powerful hardware, yet its only the enthusiasts among us that have the privilege. If you look at the highest selling PC games lately, they are mainly games that will run fine on lower-spec PC's. I think thats why a lot of the devs are switching to console. They can make the big budget eye-candy titles, knowing that they will sell.

To play those games near the quality of their PC version you're going to have to drop 500 plus on a decent HDTV.

Or you could just use your monitor.

I am getting a PC over a console partly because i can do other things with a PC while consoles remain mainly for gaming.

Also there were only a few games that really kept me occupied on my PS2. I find console games a lot less challenging.

Publishers see the next gen consoles as the priority and with sales of PC titles so low due to piracy its decline is due to the market.

I never understand why people make this point.

As mentioned above, you can simply use these consoles with a monitor. It's not as though an HDTV would only be for gaming either - you can also watch movies on them too ;)

Over the years i've become a very disgruntled pc gamer. Money isn't an issue, i'd be sitting on a monster rig right now if there were a handful of games to justify the purchase, but my last upgrade turned out to be 2 grands worth of unrealised gaming potential. In contrast there isn't enough time in the day to play all the decent console games.

Where are the bloody pc games?

Even if no more games were released until the next decade, I still wouldn't get bored of PC games due to the huge backcatalogue of titles I haven't had time to play yet.

Exactly, I have so many quality games in my room I don't care if any new games come out for a while. As soon as I finish the last one I would want to play the first one again. ;)

i'm looking forward to Bioshock, Crysis and Spore...

Bioshock will be released soonish but the way current trends go, it won't be released until at least 2008.

HL:Ep2 has been delayed until september...and yet it using source engine still. not expecting to be blown away by this. Ep:1 took under 3 hours to cruise through and that took way too long to be released.

I hope ET:QW will be something worthwhile yet i fear it may be another version of 2142...

the on;y thing stopping me from getting a console is the lack of mouse and keyboard. gamepads just dont cut it, particularly for fps...

WTH are you all on about. You don't need anything like a £400 graphics card to play top games at high res with all the eye-candy on. Try half that at £200 for a res of 1600x1040, am 8800GTS will be perfectly fine for anything you throw at it.

Also keep an eye on Left 4 Dead as its shaping up to be a real stonking co-op game.

Funny my 8800gtx i had couldn't run all games with all eye candy at 1680x1050 with aa/af, some people seem to accept 30fps as good, to me its goto be smooth 60fps minimum, no way in hell a gts/gtx will cope with games that are coming out later this year if you want it looking its best, so then its another upgade.

I honestly think consoles will hit a brickwall them selves some day. As consoles are becoming more and more demanding and trying to do more than they where origonally intended, they are trying to be more like pcs.But I think as PCs are more abaptable and not owned by one mega-corp, they will live on :).
It is madening some times when companys like Lucas Arts only seem to be making games for the consoles. But every dog has its day  and theres still thousands of great pc titles to be had

With Spaceforce 2, Colin McRae Dirt and a kickass DC10 add-on for FS2004/FSX due out soon, my PC gaming is alive and kicking.

GTA 4 will eventually make it to the PC at some stage too.

im about to embark on playing all the C&C games again.

then i will play all the Warcraft games for the first time before starting a WOW character.

retro all the way until September when gaming picks up again.

what i miss at the moment is a good multiplayer team game to play with my clanmates.

primarily a battlefield clan but we've rinsed all of them (except for 2142 which sucked)

css is yawn, been playin same ol maps for like 10 years

hoping etqw is what we need, will see tomorrow with the beta :)

Games I'm really looking forward to:

GRAW 2, The Witcher, Alan Wake, Crysis, World in Conflict, Hellgate, Call of Duty 4, Deus Ex 3 (recently announced :D ), Kane & Lynch.

The majority of those games will be out before the end of the year and I think only one of them has made it/will make it to consoles within a similar time frame. I also just got Dirt and SupCom, and I STILL haven't managed to get round to play HL2:ep1. Looks like there will be plenty of awesome PC gaming on the horizon for me atleast. :)

Dungeon siege 2 deluxe £5
Call of Juarez £2
Jade Empire: Special Edition £15

pc gaming market is abundant with Jewels of gaming magnificence... the consoles just cant compete... there just isnt enough time in the day to play them all.

edit: 1,000 post woo hoo :D

Hey surfer, where'd you get those games at that price - have been looking to buy Jade empire and COJ myself.

As well as Wings over Europe, C&C3, Dawn of War Anthology, GRAW2, Alpha Prime, Company of heroes, Infernal... actually, got lots of catching up to do!

I was recently thinking I was bored with whats out there, but been looking at some of the things I missed and I just don't know how I missed them!
