Am new to pc games, having played console games for years i feel like a change.
I know it's going to take a bit of getting used to using a keyboard and mouse so would like some advice on what to buy in the way of keyboard/mouse/headset , preferably not ultra expensive incase i dont take to it :)
Thanks in advance :)

you dont need any fancy bit of kit to enjoy pc gaming, seriously just get whatever at whatever cost and then see how it goes.... the fancy stuff comes later and are only for the true geeks amongst us.

you can happily play stuff by using the same sort of kit you get in most workplaces ie a standard ms/dell mouse/keyboard/headset.

an ms buisness HW pack is about £18 for example

Oh nice one £18, i know it seems allmost criminal but i have a nice setup and all i have ever done with it is distributed computing a bit of ebay and the like.....time to get my monies worth and pass some time into the mix.
Cheers for that :)

personally i just use a Microsoft Intelli optical mouse, a keyboard from a 18+ year old packard bell 486sx or dx lol.

However i do have a nice headset, from sennheiser (£40-£50) and a plantronics mic (stole from sister). I would say find a comfortable headset is nice, because if something is heavy or uncomfortable then after a few hours you wont enjoy it.

So basically make sure your set up is comfortable to sit and play at for several hours. And your basically good to go.

I think a decent mouse is essential for gaming.

Dont think Ive fallen for the marketing spiel, I did note a dramatic change when I swapped my default mouse for a MX510 many moons ago.

Thanks for the input peeps much appreciated, i think the consensus is a good one stick to a basic wired mouse and keyboard see how i get on.
Am looking at sennheiser headsets to complete the game setup, thanks Noto :D

I dare say once i get used to using a mouse/keyboard i will probably want more/better and will look to upgrading.....now just have to decide what to play first. Might give Bioshock a go played it on console it was really good and it would serve a purpose to see the difference and to try and measure in my own mind wether it is an improvement etc .:)

yeah as everybody else has said, jsut stick to something simple!.. if you do take too it and feel you want better hardware later, you can worry about that then.. :)

As above, get a nice sound system, bog standard keyboard and bog standard mouse. Once you're really comfortable with the interface in gaming then maybe it'll be worth thinking about upgrading to 'better' tech.

Put the rest of the money you've saved into buying The Orange Box :D also visit the Worth Buying thread stickied. Still doesnt include Psychonauts (*grumble grumble*), but has some great game recommendations in there :)

Ive recently started pc gaming and I never going back to consoles. Controller feels to restrictive now and fps feel like they are in slow motion. Trust me you wont go back, the only reason I still have the xbox is because a certain chain store near me will only give me £50.00 for it. Its really just a media hub now

Mouse : MX518
Keyboard: Not sure
Game: The Orange Box

The 518 Is a cheap, but awesome build quality, has a couple of extra buttons, and... well, does everything I've ever asked of it.
And the Orange Box has some of the best PC games around, including TF2 to get you into the multiplayer FPS scene :p

Orange box is best bet tbh! Some amazing games on it! Get mx518 trust me be the best thing you ever do!

Install steam then wait for the end of year/holiday sales to start!!!!

I also have the MX518 and its the best mouse i have had.

I agree with getting a half decent mouse but gaming keyboards are a complete waste of money. Just get a sturdy Microsoft/Logitech/Labtec one and be done with it.
