POST Beeps?

Make sure the video card hasn't been displodged whislt you have been fiddling with the RAM. This does happen. It may be best to re-seat your graphics card making sure the contacts are free from dirt and are clean. Make sure that the VGA cable is connected correctly. If you have access to another monitor try the PC on a diffeent screen and VGA cable, just to eliminate them.

i dont know whether there are any beeps i will check later. i will reseat the gfx card tonight aswell. I will try another monitor on the gfx but i cannot try the monitor on the mb because its a male connector on it and its a male connector on the screen. the thing is tho there is a light on one of the hard drives but there is no boot up sound, if u get me.

?? You just need to try the monitor and cable you are using on another machine.. Just to eliminate them.. Someone brought a machine into me last week and they were sure it was the graphics card. Turned out to be a faulty cable.

You should at least get one bleep as the system starts. This is to indicate that the PC has passed its initial basic tests. If don't get any, this suggests a more serious problem.. probebly either the motherboard or PSU. Does the motherboard have an 8pin 12v connector? Can you post the model of your motherboard.. I'll check it's specs..

i can hear a quiet beep coming from the mb wen the psu goes in. as i cannot actually turn it on or off becasue soon as i put the psu wire in the fans turn round.

What? You have an ATX case yeah.. You can power from a button on the front? You have connected all the header cables?

the motherboard has a 4bin 12V connector. the board is a asrock 4coredual-sata2 folow this link

www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=4CoreDual-SATA2

Make sure you have this connected as well as the 20pin.

Can you check also you have the correct voltage selected on the back of the PSU??

ok i have a separate power button for the psu which turns the psu on/off. there is the normal power and reset switch on the from. i put all the components i had in the case to days ago it worked fine so i unplugged the power went to bed. then i go home yesterday opens up the case swapped ram around plugged the psu bk in then turned the psu itself on using the switch it has. then automatically the fans start whirling round. i am unable to use the power or reset switch. it was all workin fine no it isnt. the cables for power switch etc are all in the correct positions.

yes i have the 20 pin and the 4pin connected.

Your posts are very hard to read mate.

So the fans start when you switch the PSU on even though you've not switched on the PC at the front? Weird.. Which fans? The fans connected to the motherboard or those connected to the PSU directly.

I can't see how it can be the fans that are connected to the motherboard because on an ATX board, the power circuit is broken to the motherboard. In otherwords, you must have the power connector on the case connected to the header on the motherboard.. Those fans can only get power if the circuit is complete. So the clue here is to see which fans are spinning and which aren't. Check those headers are in the correct place and are secure. f the PSU is kicking in as soon as the power is connected, chances are that the motherboard is at fault becuase that is responsible for starting the power when switched on.

im very sorry, i have never been to great at explaining things. yes your assumption is correct the psu lead goes into the psu and then i turn the psu itself on and the fans spin round. these fans are the gfx card, cpu fan and the psu itself. ( its like the power button on the front is being pressed straight away, with out me actually doing it)

as the fans spin round. i cannot press any of the switches i.e. power n reset. also i have 2 hard drive and 2 disk drives.

only 1 of the disk drives initiates and i only know that 1 hard drive is sort of working because the light on it is on. but there is no high pitched boot up noise.

do you understand what im sayin?

The light... on your hard drive?

Non-comprende - It's rather hard to read your post, due to lack of grammar or capitalization, but it sounds like the power button on your case may just have become perma-depressed. Can you push the cases' power button on and off at all?

No worries :)

Yep, it's clear now .. I know this is stupid, but the switch isn't stick inwards is it?

Either 1) The PSU isn't supplying the correct current to the motherboard or 2) the motherboard itself is faulty.

Eliminiating either is going to be difficult if you don't have replacements to hand..

Have a quick glance at this to test your PSU..http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17757782&highlight=startername_Admiral+Huddy

By eliminating the PSU, the finger can start pointing to the motherboard..

yes i found out yesterday, when i looked at my system to why it wasnt working, there was a green light coming from the Hard Drive.

the power button goes in and out. it makes the normal click sound when pressed. i hope its not the mobo as i only got it Monday
