PC is doing something very odd

Let us know, I should really update my BIOS had the board 2 years and don't want to brick it D:

Edit: Well then again, I've not updated the mobo drivers in 2 years either >_>

So I think you were all right about the psu, the lights are on but I don't think anyone is at home...... If u get me ;)

So iv bought a Thermaltake Dr. Power II PSU Tester and a XFX Pro Series 650W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply.

I'm gonna test my psu, if its faulty send it back under warranty and use the XFX, I will then keep the Corair AX as a back up :)

The lights on the mobo doesn't really conclude it's a working PSU or not. It just means they are receiving power but may not be supplying power to where it's needed. It may be the PSU distributing the correct voltages but the VRMs on the mobo may be unstable and therefore faulty. If the VRMS are unstable then you will get the problems you describe.

A quick way to test this is to check the voltages using a multimeter or a PSU tester which i see you have ordered. If the rails are stable and within exceptable tolerances, then it's looking like your mobo. I would however, connect the system to another PSU to verify this. You don't have to fit it in.. Just hook up the main ATX, PCIe and primary HDD power connectors then jump start the PSU.

If everything works then you'll know it is the PSU. If it doesn't then the mobo is confirmed as the culprit.

I also ways recommend to everyone who regularly upgrades their PCs, to have a spare generic PSU and cheap PCI graphics card to have around for diagnostics.

ok so ive updated my BIOS, i was on 1301 its now on 1802 O_o

**edit**

since updating the BIOS it is starting up faster, and the OS is less laggy, could the BIOS do that?

oh and i have started it up and shut it down countless times and its like new ?:/ ??????

It sounded like the 1301 had a buggy bios and the 1802 had resolved it

but if its still happening im going to guess its the PSU

I reckon the board is fine but the psu isnt giving the voltages/ripple it should so the board isnt liking it

If in doubt speak to the experts! Just called ocuk tech, I bought the board from them oct 2012, the chap diagnosed the issue as the mobo so I'm sending it back, I will test my psu as well just to be sure, it arrives tomorrow :)

So while I was packing my mobo away I found a blown capacitor next to the cpu socket, I just hope it hasn't burnt out my CPU as well? Where would I stand? Would Asus replace it?

Ty for all your comments it looks like it is the mobo :(

Did you test the PSU in the end? I had a similar fault for ages and presumed it was down to spilling CPU paste on the CPU socket...it was the PSU that died around that time. Motherboard works happily!

If you haven't tested the PSU yet "FOR GOD'S SAKE. TEST THE PSU!!!" as otherwise this could also take out your replacement motherboard.

Link is right.. Don't guess.. diagnose.

Diagnostics = Process of Elimination

Got my dad ( sparky by trade ) to yet my psu, all good so sending mobo back, FYI I found a split capacitor above the socket while packing the mobo away.

i dont trust the asrock boards either ;)

well back from beach and it was slow to start :( i have removed all OC's now and im going to the pub...... if its slow to start again then i will look at changing some components

I wont stand for this , Asrock boards absoutely fine from my experience ;)
