hi,

i'm wondering if you guys can help me please,i'm still having issues with my pc.i'm not sure if its related to my bios settings, setup or hardware problem, the pc will hang playing dirt2/alien swarm but now its happening with TF2.
Here is what ive tried:
Couple of ati drivers ( 10.7,10.5 ),updated directx, removed kaspersky I/security. ive also tried various cpu and memory settings but it still occurs.
Pc ran prime95 12hours no problems. Could it be the 5970
pc spec:

Gigabyte X58A-UD5,I7 980x,H50-1 cooler,6gb Corsair ddr3 ( TR3X6G1600C9 ),Saphire 5970,corsair 850w,system drive 160gb intel G2 ssd,samsung HD203WI &HD103UJ.
Windows7 64bit - ssd in AHCI mode with intel RST driver 9.6 . ATI Driver 10.7 ( 8.753.0.0 )
speedstep enabled
system is not overclocked.

any suggestions please?

I'm guessing it's to do with your graphics drivers.

I've had the same where things will run fine and then occasionally the entire game will freeze and I get a 'Display Driver Has Stopped Working' message. I never really found the solution and I've switched through many drivers too.

Not once did I get this issue when playing in XP. It was only within Vista and Windows 7 that it all started. I ran a dual boot before and I confirmed many times that it worked perfect in XP.

I'd be very interested if anyone in OcUK could offer some help... but the majority of techies seem to have abandoned this forum lately.

Can anyone even recommend diagnostic software that the OP could run to test his graphics card?

All I can think of is 3DMark06 (basic version is free). If you get artifacts then you can diagnose issues from them.

Seems like a common ATI + Win 7/Vista problem to be honest. A friend just bought a 4870 from MM and gets the exact same issues, very irregularly but enough to be annoyed.

Furmark. Run that for about 15 minutes. If it crashes, test it in another system, running furmark again for another 15 minutes. If it also crashes, then there could be a fault to the card.

Well I just ran both FuMark for 15 minutes and benched my card, then ran 3DMark06 on it and there wasn't a single crash or artifacts.

I tell you what, I'll be buying NVidia next time just to see if they really are that much better.

I've heard SO MANY PEOPLE experiencing this issue with ATI cards, most of which have come from NVidia cards without any issues.

update: i've put ati card back in,installed 10.7 + profiles.
clicking on furmark multi gpu either crashes instantly on run or will run but all text and graphs flicker.
ive now ran it with normal furmark and it passed 15mins without crash but slightly stuttery.
sometimes TF2 is the same even on half full server.please note the tmpin0 temp in volterra VT1165 ,any suggestions?

I'd been through the settings and adjusted but i guess i must have defaulted voltage to auto when changing stuff on one of my previous attempts :( timings are now manually set too.
