My PC keeps doing very short (tenths of seconds) lockups maybe once/twice an hour on average. The sound buzzes and inputs are unresponsive.

i changed my ram voltage to 1.5750v, could this be the problem? it is rated at 1.65v i think.

Was it working fine before you fiddled with the voltage?

I thought that RAM was 1.5V upto 1.65V? so will be ok at lower volts:(

Done a virus scan etc?

What temps are you getting on the cores of the CPU/GFX card?

Ive just put a new psu in yesterday, and havent used the pc for 5 weeks prior due to the rma taking that long.
so in all honesty I cant remember, and i only used it a couple of times before that.
I changed the voltage because i decided to go through the bios and make sure it was all still in check yesterday.

Should i put the voltage back to un-recommended standard setting of 1.65v?

I have hyperx grey ram which is rated at 1.65 and mine runs fine anywhere between 1.5 to 1.65 (As stulid said)

Try changing the voltage abit, see if that makes any difference!

Im yet to run a virus scan, it was my next thing to do (just been enjoying the ability to game again ;) )

im getting no higher than 56C on the CPU and around 50-60 on the GPU (using HWMonitor)

Im scared to up the voltage beacuse so many people say it isnt good for SB cpu's :/

I had this problem a while back, it turned out to be my SSD that was causing it, not sure if thats the problem here but thought I'd throw my two pennies.

I'm not sure, but if this were me and I didn't want to re-install, I would maybe boot up ubuntu live (the OS boots up straight from disc) and see if the same occurs, if it doesn't then possibly you could rule out voltage problems, PSU problems, etc.

It just froze completely, so i now speak to you from the trusty MBP.

So, i can certainly say it was never like this before january.

what i have changed since then is just the RAM voltage and the PSU. no software changes apart from windows update

Pull all the power/data cables out and re-fit (sounds mad;))

Done it :D
they were all in properly, just about to update the bios then run AVG scan and malwarebytes, then
hopefully it should be sorted.
im leaving the ram at this voltage, so as not to spoil the test

I updated the bios, and uninstalled the ASUS utility program.
it appears to have solved the issue, but we shall see in time.
but now i need to figure out how to use speed fan :/

Hey!
I still cant stop it from freezing/sound buzzing :( please can you help, heres what i have done up to now;
-------------------------
Re-installed ASUS AI suite (its not a very stable program, though it could be the issue)---no change (tried without it instaled also)

Re-installed flash player (i can replicate the problem best when using 4od, though it does happen when just opening a program)

Re-installed the sound driver (no change)

Unplugged and re plugged everything inside, and out (no change)

Removed the GPU and run on IGFX (no change)

Installed the latest BIOS from asus website (fresh bios settings) (no change)

Run OCCT linpak and Prime95 (does not replicate the problem, but the mouse response does stutter with prime 95)
----------------

None of the above have made any difference. the voltages shown for 3.3v 5v and 12v in asus ai suite are 3.92v 5.08v 12.288v respectively and they barely fluctuate even during cpu/gpu stress testing (msi kombustor).

ive re enabled the XMP profile, and left it to do what it wants (1600mhz and 1.65v RAM and its timings) but this has no effect either, the problem still persists :(

has anyone got any ideas, could this be a PSU prblem?

This might be a pain in the rear, a complete fresh re-install without any of those programs.
