PC Market Growing says EA

PC gaming is the way forward.. Console gaming is way too expensive. yea good pc gaming is expensive pc but its easier to sell on and only lose a small amount of money and buy a new game for £20 every so often.
where as console gaming 250-300 for the decent version console then another £500+ for a nice tv or 200-300 for an ok usable version.
PC gaming is so much easier if you have the net also as Direct to Drive etc makes life so much easier, so when you forget where you put the discs all you do is download.
(sorry about the rant i could go on)

The TV does not count as most will already have it & for its main purpose of watching TV in the first place.

Then the monitor doesn't count in the PC price then, as most will already have a monitor from a prior computer... I love the mental rules console users make up in this debate "you can't count the TV" "you can't bring WoW into it otherwise all our bullcrap arguements fall apart".

What EA are saying is true (*shudder*)... more people are paying for and playing PC games now than EVER before, just the growth of the PC and the internet in the last decade alone should give cause for PC gaming to have naturally grown with it. But people start with the "no games are released for PC anymore" twoddle they like spouting as their #1 reason they suspect the PC is "dying" as a platform, not that they just don't actually know much about it therefore don't have a clue what is currently in development or has been recently released. To them they have either heard of it or it just plain doesn't exist, a brilliant source for anyone to base their view on PC gaming upon.

First & for most im a PC gamer & only last month did i get a 360 Elite because of pressure from friends & i don't even have a TV to play it on & use my old ViewSonic computer monitor & only buy console exclusives.

The argument does not swing doth ways as a computer monitors primary purpose is to be bought for the use with a computer where a TV`s primary purpose is for watching TV & will be bought for that purpose no matter if there is a console in the house or not.
I very much don't that many households buy a computer monitor for anything else than for its primary use with a computer.

Didnt take long for a thread of this nature to pop up again! heh.

Nice to see a variation on the normal theme though.

Personally I don't care what people think about the state of gaming - I have both a PC and a PS3, as well as a Wii, although the PC gets the most use by far.

Hes probably not a console fan, hes pointing out a valid point. Nobody does actually count the monitor price, because they dont upgrade them very often, or use TVs...
Counting the price of a TV is stupid when pricing consoles, as to measure a PC vs console fairly you should be using the same TV.

Ofcourse PC gaming is growing, but not as fast as console gaming, which is a major point for all developers, as the PC is a dodgey one due to varying specs and more piracy concerns.
We havnt had all that many great games recently so dont kid yourself, but neither have the consoles.
COD4 is quite average after a while, orange box was good - i dont bother with it nowadays though. Crysis was alright too, not really much else that caught my eye and I do 'try before I buy' so I dont waste money on crap games.

PC gaming market is at risk due to consoles being more profitable for developers, so it is infact dying in certain areas, though MMOs and The Sims are obviously doing fine.

I browse both threads although I do prefer to play games on the PC and I'm currently saving to get a "quiet" pc for the living room to hook up to my 32" sammy.

However, the console seems to have more games coming out and generally a bigger buzz around it. (My perception only.)

Looking on the front page of the PC thread and we see a few threads about oldish games and only 1 new one Conan, (yet another) MMORPG which from reading the thread sounds half built and below par.

Having CO4 for 360 and PC I must say PC wins (I simply can't be bothered to learn to aim on the 360 :p ) again that's a personal perference.

I like the fact that I can switch on the console and stick the disc in and play without having to worry about the game starting at the right resolution, having the latest version of direct X installed or having the right spec. I buy the game switch on and go.

But then you're limited as to when you can use the console i.e. when no-one in your household wants to watch TV. Fair enough if you're a single bloke you can play on the main TV any time you want, but if you live with your wife/gf/parents then you can be sure that they won't be happy if they're told to go watch their favourite programmes on the crappy TV in the bedroom while you play GTA4. IF you're serious about console gaming, you absolutely must have a dedicated TV, and for this generation, that means a new HD TV.

I agree also when developing for a fixed rig you can concentrate on other game aspects rather than having to worry about what hardware your game will be running on when you finally push it out the door in 18-24 months time.

I used to think that Console games were dear hence the reason for having a PC but (unless you want pre-orders you can pick up console games for under 30 notes in most places.)

The best solution (and one that I advocate) is to have a 360 a PS3 AND a good gaming PC. ;)

Also I'm quite sure that the hardware giants will keep the console to PC ports coming as they are heavily reliant on games to drive the upgrade path of the PC user.

If they were developing properly they wouldn't need to concentrate on a particular console or the pc, see: Tech5. The problem is that you can count on one hand the amount of developers who actually try and move gaming forward, the vast majority just coast through and now its come to the point where they are causing more trouble than they are worth, they make endless amounts of medicore games without any addition to gameplay or game technology and until people like John Carmack come to save the day these low brow developers will just bounce between platforms aimlessly trying to make ends meet.
