PC Occasionally doesn't start

So, I built my new gaming PC a week ago, and I'm experiencing some problems. When I turn the system on, it will go through POST, and then go to the 'Starting Windows' screen. But then, it just won't to anything, and the screen just goes into standby as it can't find an input.

NOTE: this doesn't always happen. Sometimes, the system starts up fine, and it seems as nothing is wrong.

Anyway, if the system fails to start, I have to turn the PC off by the power button, and when I turn it back on, it prompts me with "Windows failed to start" and then asks me if I want to run 'Startup Repair' or 'Start Windows Normally'. If I choose 'Start Windows Normally' the computer will start up fine (or it has everytime I have tried it). If I choose 'Startup Repair', the system will ask me to restore to a system restore point. I do this, and it seems as everything is fine.

But then, it does it again. I try the same thing, restoring to a system restore point, but it doesn't seem to help.

Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix this? Because I'm getting kind of desperate and thinking about reinstalling Windows.

Thanks, Will.

My media center does this, totally different configuration... never sussed it out.

Its had different cpu, motherboard and graphics card... still does it. Im guessing it could be PSU, but im not to bothered at the moment!

Try a clearing the CMOS first (take the battery out of your motherboard for approximately a minute), still no job try a BIOS update by flashing with the latest official release from Gigabyte still no joy grad another kit.....(try this first if you can borrow a kit from a friend).

I'll try what you suggested, and if it doesn't work, I can try the RAM that my Dad has in his PC and see if that makes a difference.

Okay, so I've flashed the BIOS to the latest stable version and the problem seems to be fixed. I hold my breath every time my PC boots though, just in case. I've rebooted about 6 times and haven't had the issue yet.

I'll post again if the issue comes back.

Glad it's sorted, I've got the same board and I also had stability issues/BSOD's , I updated the BIOS and my drivers and it's solid as a rock now.
