Mainly to allow for airflow. If you’ve got your PSU fan facing downwards into the carpet it’s going to get very little air but will get dust, etc.

Pretty sure this is a forum for enthusiasts, I've had mine on the floor in my spare room/study for the 21 years I've lived here but I've always had laminate/engineered wood flooring.

You'd have to be pretty stupid to stand your bottom venting PC directly onto a carpet, I also have a proper laptop tray with wrist rest as I saw pretty early on in laptops becoming affordable (when I first got one for work I'd sit at the kitchen table) the burns they can put on peoples legs due to fans being blocked by clothing and overheating.

Desk for me... well i say desk..garden table from b and m for now

Good god, imagine having a nice RGB rig on show, but having the cooler block upside down.

oh the humanity :(

Yep, we do get questions from non-enthusiasts or newbies too. And yes wooden floor is fine and doesn’t have the same issues as carpet.

Have(had kinda) one of those large L shaped office desks(free from freecycle) that has a set of drawers that slide underneath the corner part, it's an old ikea model and the frame is designed for various tops, so i removed the metal part of the frame that bolts in to the support the corner (with an additional leg), marked up a straight line and jig sawed off the turn/corner part of the top, so it's just a long rectangular desk now (the metal frame and legs are central so it works either way around). I have the 3 drawer thing that would have previously slid under the corner/side part of the desk next to it and have the case on that alongside it. It sits about 14cm lower than the desk, but it's high enough i can see inside the window and the whole system, whilst taking no space up on the desk or on the floor where i'm liable to kick(i've tried under before) or bash into it with something, plus it's handily on wheels(so i can pull that sucker around or spin it if i need to get inside or plug something in).

I voted other, not quite desk or floor, but probably most similar to having it on the desk. Floor doesn't work for me if it's near me, i end up booting the thing, it can also get dusty at times and i have a super friendly cat that will rub up against it on the floor.

Before i hacked up the desk i did have the system on the desk, but now i've got less room, monitor arms and speakers with a sub, it's just not viable on there anymore and i'm not a fan of having it on the floor(for the reasons mentioned earlier).

i've had it both ways, but currently it's just off the floor under the desk. have it on a little stand to keep it away from the worst of the dust.

:D

I'm actually considering going under rather than on.
Might be getting some speakers and it will be in way if so

My pc case isn't very pretty so under the desk it goes. Unless I go for a small form factor build it will probably stay there. I like my desk space too much.

I love and cherish my computer. I clean it regularly and I fitted led lights etc.

I can't imagine why a gamer would chuck a pc on the floor.

I can understand an office worker keeping it on the floor because it's simply a tool to get the job done like a toaster or a microwave.

Is it not just a tool to get the games running? I have mine on my desk, but that's for cleanliness and also for sit/stand reasons.

Yes it's a tool but some people treat their tool like a piece of artwork. There's a Harley Quinn themed pc in the mods section for example and it looks amazing. It has pride of place on top of the desk.

Fair enough. I assume though it's all been well worked out thermally. Guess I just have an issue with the people who sacrifice thermals (i.e. performance to do what the computer actually needs to do) for RGB. Definitely not the same thing as a massive theme build.

On the floor, on a piece of wood so it isn't sitting on carpet, clogging up my bottom intake. It's in the living room so it's next to the TV cabinet. I could have built for putting it in the cabinet, but my cat likes to jump in there and he technically owns the place, we're just the help :)

See post #16. I have a Thermaltake Core X71, good luck putting that on a desk.

Floor. But what to transition to desk for next build. Never had a problem with dust with my current one sat on carpet. Just make sure it's well filtered. And you keep your room clean.

I've only ever put under when there wasn't enough room on the desk. But I tried to prop it up a bit so there was airflow underneath. Had to clear the vent filter weekly though. Damn dust.

I pulled my old Mozart TX out of storage to play around with. Got some mods planned for it. Anyway, it's 720mm tall. So yeah it's on the floor lol.
