Pc or PS3

I can't use consoles. Unnatural controls to me. I own a PS3, I use it as a media centre. And by that I mean I rarely play a bluray or dvd.

Hah, it runs at a lower res, less aa, and looks worse than what my PC can do ... and people actually buy these crappy consoles?

What a retarded thing to say. These consoles are 2 years old now, compare PC games from 2 years ago and IMO the only advantage PC games had then was the res.

I like both of them tbh. I think better games come out on the console as theres more profit to be had there but a good pc game lasts me longer as i love the online side of gaming. Played sof2 for 2-3 years in a clan and been playing eve online for 3 years. Can't think of single game on a console that i have played for more than 6 months. The console is also better for when mates come around the pc is mainly a one man machine. As for graphics the pc is the best as its upgradable the new gen of cards are probably 3 times faster than what is in the ps3 so for me its obvious which has the better graphics capability. As said above its all down to developers to use the extra power the pc has.

I think consoles are more suited to a "pick up and play" style of impulse gaming whereas PCs are better at the more "involved" stuff.

As for current consoles, we have a Wii simply because it's a totally different experience to anything you'd get on a PC. Don't and won't have an XBox or PS3. TBH the PS3 has been a flop as a console IMHO. If it wasn't for the fact it plays BluRay discs, it would have died a death ages ago.

I bought a 360 a few months ago and sold it here a few weeks ago. Waste of money really. Some good games, but ultimately not as good as the PC.

You need a big HD TV to get the most out of a console, and when you add together the cost of a console and a TV, you're looking at the sort of money you could buy a mid-range PC for, that will play games at higher settings and allow you to do a lot more really.

Consoles have come a long way, but they're still ultimately toys.

I have both a ps3 and a 360 elite yet I'm still looking to build a custom gaming pc. I moved up to uni and without a tv licence etc though I'd leave the consoles at home and take my pc up. Its not a gaming pc but I can play the games I have on steam well enougth that it's made me realise how much I used to love pc gaming and this is why I'm coming back to it. So personally I find pc gaming more fun now for the online gaming, customising and graphic power.

It costs more but you get more out of it. My only con of pc gaming is all my friends are console gamers and won't ever switch to pc. However I've met people at uni who pc game so exciting times ahead.

Just my 2 cents, pc will always be more rewarding.

I got my PS3 on launch night (at midnight :o) primarily as a media centre and the ONLY games I have actually bought since are GT5 (which is pants, specially the stupid physics online!!) and Virtua Tennis around wimbledon time last year and is a game that has a 4 player mode (I have 4 controllers too!) ... now, that's an experience I can't get on my PC and the kids love it!

And to which is best? I would say that the pc is more a personal thing (unless you have a LAN of course!!) .... and in my opinion the graphics on the PS3 were a let down (as has been mentioned already!), specially on a 50" 1366x768 plasma!

The good thing about PCs, is you can upgrade to a more powerful CPU and Graphics Hardware when available to support the latest graphics enhanced games, witch on the games consoles, you can`t do.

I think the current games consoles are starting to show their age already - I may be wrong, but isn`t this the reason why Crysis hasn`t been released on the consoles??

If you dont like or cant fiddle about solving problems that will inevitably arise with gaming on pc's then get a console.

also cost should be taken into account as a console costs at least 50% less than a pc and last about 5 - 7 years.

Personally I'm a PC man and think anyone with a brain and a bit of money should be too.

PC is so far ahead of consoles its beyond a joke. PC is like the next generation console but available right here right now to suit all budgets as well. Bluray at one time I thought looked amazing on the PS3. Then once PC BD drives came out I had to get one and the difference is there in the PC's favour it provides a better looking picture with more tweaks you can adjust as well. PS3 biggest selling point was BD now it cannot even brag of that anymore.

X360 was good 2 years ago & I even bought one just to play Dead Rising on it but the hardware failures & noise are shocking. Even with the NXE and games installed on my 360 hard drive the noise it makes still sickens me literally so that I cannot use it for more than a few mins without feeling ill.

Both 360 + PS3 cannot handle most games with vsync & decent AA as they lack the hardware being based on 2-3 year old PC graphics. THey have to resort to all sorts of cheap tricks to get any kind of playable FPS usually by lowering resolution to under 700 and upscaling then applying blur filters to make it look smooth at the loss of sharpness.

Then you have the consistent bugs & laggy gameplay resulting in almost every console game needing some kind of patch to even work properly. So this generation MS + Sony have dropped their QA requirements to amateur levels if they even bother doing any now that is as some top games are riddled with shocking technical problems (GTA-IV was a good example of this as it hard locked both PS3 & 360 for many players).

People talk about costs well MS are great at marketing as a base 360 is now £129 but add in the £60 wireless adapter & £40 per year for LIVE then you need a hard drive as well now so thats another £60 =£300 minimum then say another £80 for 2 more years LIVE. PS3 is obviously no better cost wise. £300 buys a decent GPU + CPU for almost any PC made in the past 2-3 years and gives a vastly superior experience as multiplayer is free & MS even made Windows LIVE free now and are expanding it to be the same as 360 Marketplace. PC games are generally much cheaper as well and you can also get mods easily to change them usually for free as well.

PC can even be hooked up to a HDTV so easily even a child could do it. All you need is a £5 DVI to HDMI cable and thats it as long as your gfx card is under 4-5 years old you should be good to go. If your HDTV has a 1:1 HDMI port then thats the one you need it really is childs play. PC games @ 720/1080 on a HDTV look stunning with lots of AA + AF and high playable FPS as well.

The only things 360+PS3 have going for them are ease of use & mainstream appeal. I have all 3 systems and the 360 & PS3 just sit and gather dust for months as there is nothing I need them for unless an exclusive format game I really like comes out but even then if its 360 exclusive most of the time they make it to the PC eventually anyway.

Then you have the consistent bugs & laggy gameplay resulting in almost every console game needing some kind of patch to even work properly.

Whereas every PC game works flawlessly out of the box :p

And I'd have to question your view that there is a good PC for every budget-as far as I know the most expensive console is around £300. To get a reasonable gaming PC you have to splash out an extra hundred on top of that at least.

Lucky for you that I agree with most of the rest of what you've said! I have both a PS3 and a decent PC. Use my PC for most single player and online games, and the PS3 for sports games, racing games and splitscreen multiplayer (and exclusives-LBP and MGS4 are ace!)

Effectively what I'm trying to say is that both are good for different things. PC all the way for single player immersion, and the online community is great, but the PS3 is great for sports games and splitscreen. It's also nice having something in the living room which streams media etc.

EDIT: Good point about mods, that's one of the best things about PC gaming :D

Sometimes I wish I had just stuck with consoles but since dabbling with high end hardware and seeing how good games look on PC compared to consoles with a decent resolutions over the years. I simply cannot stand to use any console anymore as the graphics constantly let me down. If only my standards were slightly lower I may have more cash in my back pocket :D

Swings and roundabouts. PC Gaming is a lot more rewarding theres nothing like building a new rig up then seeing how much FPS you can pull out.

im the same i remember when the GRID demo came out i downloaded it for the PS3 and the PC and it was no contest. i also sold my PS3 GTA4 the moment the pc version was announced and apart from MGS4 my PS3 is only used as a media player

also consoles will never see games like empire total war or supcom (i know supcom is out on the 360 but i doubt it is being played the way it was intended)

on a side note though this forum is always gonna be biased towards pc's and no doubt a console site will champion the consoles. there are pluses and minuses for both so as been said probably ten times already in this thread.... its all about personal preference (but lets be honest its pc all the way)

Some things to consider:
Multiplats = Higher resolutions and Anti-Aliasing on PC. If the developers are good, they will also have higher settings available for the PC version.

Exclusives = Higher resolutions and Anti-Aliasing than console exclusives, and assuming the developers are good, they will definitely look better than console exclusive games, on a good PC.

Controllers = This depends on the individual. I am reasonably proficient with gamepads, but I prefer M&K on my PC.

Better Online = There are bigger servers (number of players) on PC, and we have dedicated servers, and it is free to play. 360 has matchmaking and all hat stuff, but is not free and does not support as many players.

Mods = Obvious really. PC has tons of user created content. Some is crap, some is amazing.

Editors = Much more available to you on PC.

Hardware price = Consoles are cheaper of course. If however, you require a PC for home/work/multimedia use, then all you need do is pop in a good GPU card.

Software price = Cheaper games on PC.

Great responce!!! well it looks like everyone that has posted has favoured the PC and PS3 got **** all... :)
Mame easier said than done my friend upgrading the cards! but my wife would hit the roof as i did say to her some time ago " yes honey that's all i am doing to the PC " and since changed my memory to ocz, changed HSF twice, another fan for my antec, changed to 22" monitor!!
Thats why the PS3 does not even touch the PC!! you can't put your personal stamp on the thing and say this is my rig! ;)
