got to say the console has the upper hand on the pc when it comes to game release dates. consoles have ease of use, even kids can play on them without you looking over their shoulder to make sure they dont wipe out some system files. consoles in general are more reliable and provide the better gaming experience, no more bsods or driver update issues.
fps and rts games the pc wins on simply because of the keyboard and mouse interface. if the consoles supported the keyboard and mouse input for the fps and rts games even i would get me a console.
also dunno if its just me but i cant seem to find myself playing multiplayer games with people on 1 pc like pro evo soccer, it just feels more natural to play it on the console with others, but then again network gaming on the pc is a whole different experience.
touching on graphics now the pc wins hands down. crysis alone is worth buying a pc for. as mentioned above the resolution and filter quality on pc is fantastic IF you have the hardware for it. loading times also seem to favour the pc as long as you dont run your games from a usb1 memstik.
now some of you wont like the sound of this but a few people iv spoken to say they prefer the pc for gaming since all you do is buy the hardware as a one time purchase (can be upgraded too) and the games come for "free". not the right sort of attitude for pc gaming but some people seem to think that having spent a grand on the hardware is justification on downloading games for free. thats not on.
in conclusion, i say both systems have thier own advantages and disadvantages, pc's can be used for other things than gaming, but then again consoles these days too also seem to be able to double up as media players and web browsers too. the future could possibly be a console being a pc in a small fancy box.

Yeh but for 300 quid you won't be able to get a blu ray reader aswell etc.

Ps3/360 games are usually £40 on release, PC versions of the same title can easily be picked up for £25.
Over a year of buying say one game a month that's a saving of £180.

Probably not as they are like 60 quid, but is it really necessary?
PC is better, it will always be better and this will never change, ever.
Still, consoles have some good exclusive games, but aside from that PC dominates.

im with cyber-mav on this one, he has the points spot on IMO consoles are just easier, though xbox 360s are noted for being somewhat unreliable but sending them back for repair doesn't take that long and i hear sony customer support is even better. with regards to blu-ray, couldn't give a damn if my PC had blu-ray or not because as far as i can tell (blu-ray vs. standard definition DVD) there is virtually no difference in picture quality at all, to me (though i own a PS3) there is no justification for choosing to buy something over another thing simply because it has blu-ray and the other doesn't

Get some glasses mate or sit closer to the tele. Difference is massive.
Whilst the PS3 has the advantages of immediacy and ease of use etc, I'm less and less interested in racing and FPS games. Then when there is an FPS out the console versions just look soooo crap compared to the PC versions. Farcry is just not the same quality experience on a console. The 360 has now been boxed up.
i bought ps3 just to play gta 4 and the next day when it arrive i played for 30 gta 4 with fps drops.
as soon as i heard that gta 4 coming for pc i never touched ps3 again.
but for some reason my gf did not let me to sell it.
probably want to trade my gta 4 on pc for sing a star or something.
i see consoles as good entertainment like wii now a days or sing a star when u have some house party that's it

Why is it still open you mean?
I have my ps3 networked to my pc for media streaming and for some casual online gaming works brilliantly, i do prefer the pc though as i mainly play fps and you cannot beat keyboard and mouse. For for a quick game on something like little big planet or some arcade shooter action the ps3 is great. Main expense is blu rays, im a sucker for great visuals and seem to be ammassing blus at an alarming rate
i KNEW someone was going to post a stupid statement like that, my eyesight is fine (went to opticians 3 months ago) and i wasn't sitting far from the TV, maybe 5 feet or so, and the TV in question is samsung 37" 1080HD connected to my PS3 via HDMI, and sure there is a small difference but its nothing extrodinary, hence how i said 'virtually no difference' that i can tell

I personally prefer the PC, you have better graphics on the PC, and much more customization, free new content etc.
Na m8 there is huge difference, and the bigger TV, you have the more you notice it.
Your probabley so use to it, you can't tell the difference.
I have watched both dvd and blu ray versions of films and the difference can be massive on a blu ray with top notch picture quality. Some blu rays are no better than the dvd but these are usually older films that have been badly transfered, any new releases look and sound fantastic.
