Sounds like the system has hung whilst booting and from the error message it seems that skype might be the culprit. If a couple of reboots doesn't help hit f8 whilst it boots and go in to safe mode. Maybe then remove skype using add remove programs, reboot and see what happens.

when trying to remove skype it says ' the windows installer service could not be accessed. this can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is nor correctly installed. cantact your support personnel assistance.' really dont know what to do

okay,

Plan b. when in safe mode type msconfig into the run area.

Then select the startup tab and look for skype in that list. If its there deselect it, reboot and see what happens now. Hopefully that will stop skype starting up, so might mean you can get back into windows normally.

I googled your problem a little earlier and found someone with similar issues who some how was missing svchost.exe (which as far as I understand is used by several bits of software) so might be worth checking if you can see that in your process list.

From the windows button in the bottom left, there's an option to 'Run' select that and enter msconfig. Or at least that's how I remember XP, Vista and 7 are slightly different.

Andi.

There is always the option of installing windows back over the previous install, it should repair any system damage as a matter of course.

put windows in drive and boot from it, when it asks where to install show it the existing windows dir (some versions will detect you have windows already installed) it should ask if you want to repair that install, say yes
