Hi

Haven't done much PC gaming in a while and was wondering what are the 'best' racing/driving games on the PC at the moment? I'm thinking more simulation than arcade but if it is good please shout it out.

Sim:
GTR 1/2
GT Legends
LFS
Race
rFactor

Arcade:
NFS (any incarnation i guess)
Toca

(im a bit patchy in the arcade area lol)

GTR 1/2 for me 2 great games and can be difficult which i like.
I also play GP4 moded which can be great if you like F1.

F1 is my fave racing to watch so naturally my fave racer is Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix 4 , updated with new textures .. nothing beats it imo :)

Depends on your own skill level but it is a clear battle between RFactor and Live for Speed.
Both superb online racers and both have advantages over the other.
RFactor has a Huge mod community that spits out mods on a weekly basis. There are all sorts of cars, absolutely loads of tracks and a large online community.
LFS has a rock solid base and is very much a pick up and play kind of game. Enouth tracks and cars to keep most happy and joining races is very easy.
Both require skill to play well and the choice in my opinion is purely personal between these two as they both drive and handly excellently.

I'm playing Richard Burns Rally a lot lately, but it's possibly one of the most unforgiving games I played (like crashing into metal barrier on a hairpin at 100 KPH on a last stage of france, DNF my whole race, but hey my fault for going too bloody fast).

Richard Burns Rally
Live For Speed

I have tried most of the racing sims out there at the moment, but these are the 2 I keep coming back to.

The Simbin games I just couldn't get on with, which is a shame because there's a bloody good version of the 'Ring available for them.

rFactor I tried, but the online side was a let down for me. Apparently this is a lot better now.

nkPro I wouldn't bother with at all, on first release it was obviously incomplete, then the developer disappeared off the face of the planet for a few months leaving those who had bought it wondering if there would ever be a patch.

I can't believe i didn't mention RBR. Without doubt the Best rally game on the PC. Rock hard with a huge learning curve but when you get it right it's very rewarding. Be warned though the crashes physically hurt.
So its Rfactor, RBR & LFS.

I've been racing in a league with this sim, and yes while it is buggy and badly supported, the underlying sim is very good. If you can forgive the issues and get it working well (easy with some time and attention) then it is very rewarding.

Too right, it takes a little getting used to but when you do its one of the most rewarding games I've played.

Just uploading a short .avi now to stick in the Game Videos Thread :)

I still can't get the perfect 80 seconds on last stage of rally school to unlock the other subaru on RBR. Been at it for about 4 hours and closest I been to was 81.something.

LFS is king for me. I love the sim. Very hard to get good and race with the best but very rewarding. I have done hundreds of laps around South City Classic in a FOX but now i'm within a second of the World Record.... and stuck there!!

Toca Race Driver 3 and Colin Mcrae Rally 2005 - both good games with a ff steering wheel. I like all the different cars In Toca RD3 especially the twitchy Caterham 7's. It's great racing online too.
