pc randomly powers off

Definitely no loose connections :P it seems to have ran fine thus far with out my Overclock. But it did restart a bit earlier I wonder why though it makes little sense.

try loading optimised defaults in the bios and see if it still restarts, beware it will wipe/reset all bios setttings so make a note

what are temps like?auto shut down will happen if its overheating ect, check chipset and cpu temps

temps are well normal idles. I've been running it all day at defaults Wazza and it's shut down maybe twice I think. :/ theres a few errors in my windows event viewer but I can't remember what time it shut down so I can't coincide it with the shut downs atm.

what cpu vtt and dram voltages you using? could be not enough vtt

idk, have you updated the bios recently? has it restarted since then? each bios will be different some need more some need les voltages than others,im just tryin to think what it could be and not enough vtt can make pc restart, sometimes with no bsod

same for cpu offset,if its not enough it can cause the idle voltage to be slightly lower and restart pc,this was a major problem on asrock z68 boards over on tweaktown forums

I'd do a memtest on the RAM, if possible run everything out of the case to isolate any possible power issue though usually a short would cause a shutdown, not a reboot. Reseat the cpu as well.

It is possible the memory controller has degraded slightly and you need to bump the VTT but unlikely. What voltage are you running the RAM at? Have seen RAM cause such errors with nary a bsod or log.

Have you checked on another circuit? could be a power issue... heck even checked the cables are in tight? :p

Have had the odd duff board do this as well, had a Z77 Asus suddenly reboot even with a mild overclock and eventually started to do it at stock, however this was under load not idle. No changing ram/gpu/psu etc helped and the exact twin of it worked fine with the same settings so the board was definetly faulty.

Well I was running the RAM at 1.5V 1600Mhz 9-9-9-9 24 I think. I don't use offset for voltage I manually have it set and disable speedstep so 100% of the time my CPU can use up to 1.25V Ill run a memtest soon I haven't changed anything since I got it home other than added the other 2x4GB RAM I had. But that was last weekend and it's been fine until now. Hope I don't have to RMA anything :( defo not a loose connection.

16gb ram in total? i would look at vtt and dram, for 16gb id use atleast 1.55v even if it means going above 1.5v rating,im using 1.55v for 8gb

Ah I see. well I think the veng RAM is rated up to 1.6V or 1.55V at least. Ill look at the settings after this battleground... (playing WoW like a boss)

Yeah I thought they wouldn't :p I had it set at 1600mhz cause it was the default XMP setting :) can't wait to get the money Im meant to be getting this month... WC loop... 670 nice new monitor everything :D

Right so VTT was set to 1.074V and DRAM was set to 1.5V I've upped VTT to 1.104V and DRAM to 1.55V reckon that should be alright? Will have to test with memtest tommorow since unfortunately I don't have a spare USB with it on :p
