PC Squeaking

Hi,

ive noticed my pc is emitting a slight squeaking sound its intermittent say one squeak every 5 seconds. I have tested the fans and i am pretty sure its not them so i think it might be the HDD.

The HDD is a spintpoint F1 1tb drive - any1 had any experience with these drives squeaking and is there a way to fix it?

The only other fan i havent tested is the psu fan which it may be as that does spin at low rpm... its a corsair 620watt modular...

Any1 have any ideas?

It's probably the GFX card capacitors, normal behaviour.

You could disconnect teh HDD and turn it on to see if the noise stops, pc will hang on POST screen asking for boot device of course but it's a good test.

Better yet put the PC into power save mode so the hdd turns off after 1minute then observe if the noise continues.

Right i will definately try that.

The graphics card theory sounds pluasable as i did install a new HD5770 on the weekend (replacing my 7900gt) and thats when i noticed it.

Will this squeaking stop after time because its one of those annoying little things see'ing as ive gone for quieter options with regards to cooling and chassis on my PC...

Should i take the gfx card back then? surely it should not be squeaking...

You could if you want... it may also be the PSU.

I'ld edge on the PSU, one of my old ones developed a high pitched squeak/whine then 1 day it died

You may get another that squeels.

Capacitors will squeel. Most nvidia cards squeel, you'll hear it if your pc is quiet. All mine did.

Well my PSU is a 620watt corsair so its not a cheapo one and its only 1 year old + it didnt squeak the other day with my old gfx card.

Why do these new gfx cards squeak its stupid i want a quiet one :S ...

Will it get worse over time or will it stay the same?

i dont think you can return squeaking cards. My 4850 squeaks on certain screens, the orc login screen on wow for example. Download ATITool and run the artifact test, if it squeaks constantly while it runs then it is the graphics card.

Its not like a squeaking when its in use... its just like an idle squeaking from my pc. Sort of like a squeaky wheel? thats why i thought it may be the HDD

No its like an annoying bird chirping/beeping/squeaking sound that lasts about 0.5seconds and occurs every 10 seconds ish...

Its very annoying

Well i got home today and turned on the pc and the squeaking stopped :s my pc is normally on 24/7 so i guess it just needed a rest

Right i have found out the cause of the squeaking... its my psu fan.. a corsair 620watt modular... does any1 have any suggestions as to what i should do? i have had it under 12months
