That temp doesn't seem too bad for an XP3200 to be honest. Even for an idle temp, it's not that high...those were some hot chips :)

Has the PC been stable up till this point and have you changed anything recently?

Try and check the temperature of the ram modules, or replace with ram you know is working. Temps look alright I used to run my xp3200+ at 80c full load no problem on overclock.

Try re-seating your CPU and applying new thermal paste. It could well just be that your ambient temp is so hot that the CPU cooler can't cope.

this is what i thought. tried reseating it today made no difference. wasnt much paste on the bit where the chip is but i dont have any atm. spread it around the best i could but i'll have ot get some more.

Had another look at your first post and your 5v rail seems 'kinda on the low side if u know what i mean' . Try a different psu. -12v looks suspect as well.

Worth a try, but 59c in bios is not excessive for those chips imo.

I'd say it is - we used to run a media pc with a barton 2500 oc'd to 3200 speeds in a shuttle case and it didn't hit 59c at load, let alone idle. I saw it hit 57 once but that was when we were gaming at a LAN in a tiny room in the middle of summer.

I'd expect these chips to idle at 40-45 with reasonable cooling. They're not quite so bad as the tbredA chips;)

I didn't even notice that - if it's an accurate read-out, that's highly highly dodgy

whats that mean then

theres not enough power coming from the psu??

be fuming if thats true as this pc was built in a pc shop. a one that ive slated for years but in a shop all the same

If the reading are correct then yes the ram, mb and cpu are not getting enough power and could probably bork out in no time. Could just be a duff psu and the workmanship in putting the unit together is perfect.

ok, im running a xp3200 in my 4th pc and its max load temperature does not exceed 50c. and it idles at around 32c so your cpu is runnig on the hot side.

if temps go over 65c at stock clock then you will experience crashes etc.
i advise you to check your cooling out and run snm to test it out properly.
