PC VR (How much VRAM?)

My current setup 6600k and 2070 8GB vram DCS VR around 30/40 fps on lower settings.

I am hopeful going with amd5 cpu and a 5070TI I should be pretty good, compared to my current rig.

Nah the more I know about the 5090 the less inclined I am to buy it even though I thought I might buy 1 before it was announced. That price and modest raster performance increase has changed my mind. Kind of regret selling my 4090 now tbh, just today I've been playing beam ng which is a demanding pcvr driving sim, my humble 3070 ran it reasonably ok but I bet my old 4090 would have made it look really nice.

That being said, I do suffer from FOMO when it comes to GPU's lol, plus I know if I can bag a 5090 in the inevitable rush for them I probably won't lose any money on it for a good while if selling it on. Will probably buy a 5090 equipped PC rather than the GPU only if I end up giving in, I think my i7 7700K would significantly hold back a 5090 (was getting about 15-30% less fps with a 4090/i7 7700K compared to 4090 equipped pc's with a very fast cpu).

This OC'ers PC I have here has done really well for the last 7 or 8 years not a single problem with it, will only replace it if I decide to get a 5090. And that is the end of my blog post :D

i think the thing is graphics cards arent just graphics cards any more there more compute modules or headed in that direction.
i think AMD are going to be winners in this round if they play their cards right
If AMD reveal a good alternative to the 5000 series, I don't care about ray tracing or DLSS, if they can be in the same ballpark with raster performance, I'd buy AMD no problem. During the first few years I was into VR my GPU was AMD and had no problems.

So did any of us VR fans buy a 5090? I had 1 in my basket expecting to pay 2k but it was 2.5k at payment stage so I paused for 30 seconds then tried to pay and it had been removed, probably for the best. I want a better GPU now and may wait for the new AMD release's or buy a used 4080S or a used 7900 XTX and upgrade my PC at the same time.

Sticking with my 4090 for now. I'm mostly CPU limited anyway, so that's the next upgrade. (Which necessitates a new PC build due to the socket and ram change.)

i have an AMD 5800x cpu with an RTX 3090 and that seems a fairly well balanced system. I WAS gonna get a 5080 gpu and it would have been almost purely for VR reasons had i done it but its been so disappointing and besides my cpu may not give me the best out of it anyway.

i think i have decided now i will wait for the next gen then put a huge chunk of change down for an entire system build for the 6 series.

i am not anti AMD (as said my cpu is AMD) so i would potentially consider an AMD GPU but unlike some here i do want ray tracing as well.

A 5800X3D would give you a decent boost for not too much money.

I'm thinking of buying a 4080S + 14900KS pc or a 7900 XTX + 7800X3D pc second hand to tide me over for a couple of years. Surprisingly my i7 7700K + 3070 still plays almost anything but at low settings although I haven't tried UEVR, I expect most things using that would be a no go. Still does ok with native VR title's though.
