PCGH asks Nvidia on Gameworks

Every thread like this ends in the same way. Great reading when you see fanboys getting all worked up :D What's the point in arguing about it? The companies do what they want with the devs, good or bad. Some games run better on AMD cards, some run better with nVidia, It's always been the same.

Would be like console fans moaning and arguing amongst themselves about exclusive titles.

Thought so - no proof - just opinions

Why wouldn't I believe a spokesperson for AMD in the form of Richard Huddy when he says turning on gameworks in ghosts, and I quote here 'there's a piece of code in there that runs seven times as slower on AMD hardware than on nvidia hardware, and it's hair simulation... they are doing line tessellation to a crazy extent. What they are doing is tessellating the hell out of the model, so that it runs slower.' He states a 40% hit for AMD, and a 5% hit for nvidia.

It's evidence, yes from a very interested party, but it's evidence. As are the OP quotes.

Because it's from somebody who works for AMD. Don't be so gullible. And I say that about the original quotes too.

Tessellation runs just as well on newer AMD hardware as it does nVidia. Also: tessellation not equal to GameWorks libraries.

Apologies for the gazillion ninja edits on my post :D. I have just re-read this from Andy which summarises things succinctly:

If you turn on/off a gameworks feature you get the same performance change, so no gameworks is not being used to harm amd performance

Conclusion: AMD are kicking up a fuss over nothing.

I have to agree.

Hmm, AMD spokesman said it - must be true

This business with Nvidia deliberately adding things to the game that hurt their own performance because it hurts AMD more has been questioned and accused for years by a lot of different people in the industry, there is a consensus that it does happen.

What i find surreal is that every Nvidia user on the net who has anything to say about it is in "defend Nvidia at all cost" mode instead of being critical at the fact that Nvidia are willing to lessen the gaming experience of their own user base to spite AMD.

As for Ubi, it seems to me that perhaps bad policies are rubbing off on them.

What consensus? I have seen no such consensus. Also, there is still no evidence for your claims. Shifting the goalposts away from the original GW claims is not amusing and one can easily see past this.

Most Nvidia users here are being logical in their thought processes and quite rightfully demanding proof for the absurd claims being made by select few AMD proponents.

Marvellous - nothing to do with GW though so stay on topic please.

I'm a 'nVidia user' (currently). Definitely not going to defend them at all costs as no interest in that. Perhaps you should refrain from gross stereo-typing or you'll find yourself in petty AMD vs nVidia wars... again... or perhaps that's what you want as it's more your level? If not then you should seriously re-consider your post(s).

As to your point and it is indeed a pertinent one: I don't care as all my game run at levels of performance I'm happy with and at settings I'm happy with. When that changes then I'll have something to say. Alas, I digress from the topic but felt worthwhile to address your point in my more general point on the topic.

Again, please provide proof

It is about Game Works, some of the things i'm talking about are in Game Works.

No it isn't. Nothing in the GW libraries that I'm aware of is harming nVidia but harming AMD more. They're just general effects added to increase the IQ. Tessellation isn't a GW library.

Proof or nowte.

Over use of tessalation=Crysis 2, Batmans cape, COD wolfs and the dog.

We have 2 Nvidia employees stating the polar opposite, one states AMD have access to game code and the other stating AMD don't have access to game code as they are a competitor.

Hairworks is valid in line with GW performance.

I'm using Nvidia and AMD, and never saw any issue in WD's so far and have stated so a few times already, COD, I don't have, but I have BAO and the performance delta is way, way off until you add MSAA which is a brute force approach at a driver level.

@MJ Frosty sorry for OT, but we have been trying GTX 780SLI on4K /AOC U2868/ however, 60Hz runs fine, but another issue came up- no SLI

we have tried like 5 SLi bridges but we couldn t get the SLI to run ..any advice, pls ?
