Hey guys.

What are your opinions on pcie riser cables?
-anyone had performance/compatibility issues?
-I have pcie4.0 mobo (x570-p) and will at some point get 4.0 nvme, can I disable pci-e 4.0 for the gpu slot ONLY?
-any brands to avoid? Or are the cheap £15 ones ok?
-are pcie gen 4.0 ones available/coming soon? Not sure I'll want to wax another £30-£50 when rtx3080/4080 and nvme will be restricted by gen 3.0 riser. I could halt my project (details below).

Once I've got the riser in, what can I use to secure/prop up the end of the gpu?
-It will be laying down flat in my node 605. Maybe wood block, velcro both ends?

Also, where the hell can i get some 14cm wire cpu fan mount clips? Got nh-c14s off fleabay and was only sent 3x 12cm mount clips??

= = = = =

Why do i need a riser?
I've gone bats**t crazy and decided I want my 280mm aio in(/on) my HTPC (node 605)!!
I've only ever seen 120mm rads in my case.
Basically I'm cutting holes in the top of case, so I have 3x14cm intakes (1 for nh-c14s), and all the normal fan ports as exhaust.

I've met a lot of hassle already though and wondering if a tiny (potentially zero) gpu OC performance increase is worth the £/hassle.

What I didn't account for was...
A) the height of gpu: my evga rtx2080 pcb is actually taller than my nh-c14s dual fan... Another 1.5cm taller with kraken g12. Even 15mm slim fans = impossible above gpu. Could do 2x12cm though.
B) how I'm going to wire in... the gpu, aio header, pwm signal to hub +3 fans (whilst rad/fans attached to the lid). PAIN! :I

I'm gonna be sharing with everyone on here several test results and details of the project (I'm anal with tests).
I will be sharing info on...

1) optimal airflow in a HTPC case (playing around with 10-15 different case, aio and cpu cooler fan configs)
2) answering: "do you even need exhaust fans in a HTPC case?"
2) info on gpu: stock OC vs g12+aio OC
3) pull only vs push/pull
4) Liquid metal vs paste on gpu and gpu
5) Filter air restrictions & temps
6) case placement (proximity to walls and other heat sources - amp/TV).

Thanks guys,
Wish me luck!
