I've just crossfired 2 x 6970 on the top 2 pci x 16 slots but was a little concerned about temps etc, the case is an 800d. temps during intense gameplay mid 70s and other card about 65 c. there is a very small gap between both cards so i decided to move the second card to the pci x 8 slot at the bottom of the board.

the only problem is that i can't get the card to fit in the slot fully because of the pwr/led header switches at bottom of the board next to the front usb headers. i unplugged the front usb headers and the pwr/led headers and this allows me to plug the card in fully but this wont allow me to power up the pc as the pwr header is unplugged. i think this is a design flaw on the ud5 and i can't see a work around other than keep both cards together in slots 1 and 2 and monitor temps or get a new board with better pci-e spacing? anyone got a workaround re the pwr/led header blocking the pci-e x 8 slot when a card is fitted?

You could press the power button on the motherboard. Bit of a pain though if you shut down every night.

Or as hyperst says just join the power switch wires direct to the header pins.

How much clearance is there? You might be able to shave some material off the connector and have the wires come out at a 90 degree angle. Or reduce the terminal down to just the box end and solder a wire to it. I'd try that rather than soldering to the pin directly.

Iv got the exact same board and i have my gtx 480 in the bottom slot just push it in as much as possible mine doesnt fully fit, it doesn't haft to clip in fully with the catch as long as it makes contact properly its fine my cards work perfect no problems

power on by keyboard, is that an option in the bios somewhere

oh right, there's an option in bios? , this would help i guess if it were possible to power up this way. i'll have a check. thanks for all the other comments. i can get the card to sit in the slot with the pwr/led still connected but it is not fully seated like the one in the first slot and the plastic trigger to release the card has not extended out which it would do if fully seated. i've not tried to run crossfire this way i.e. with the second card not fully seated but may also give that a shot.

you can power from the keyboard but if your computer locks up or anything like that you cant reset the computer from the case

yes it should completly solve your issue:)

My card is basicly fully in, if it would move a tiny little bit the catch would pop out but it wont, but everythings fine, anyway If you look at the orange pcie lane on the UD5 the contacts only go half way as its only an 8x slot
