hi, just a quick question guys. havin trouble with my rig, think it might be my soft settings in the bios set wrong. Would the PCI express frequency be the frequency my graphics card runs at? dont wanna change it without being sure.
its an 8800GT
GeForce 8800 GT core running at 600MHz
- Shader Clock Speed of 1500MHz
- 512MB GDDR3 Memory running at 1800MHz

currently its set at 100mhz. but should i change it to one of the figures above?

the problem relates to running crysis. it just crashes either on loading or during play every 5 or 10mins. im exlporing the option that its a faulty ram socket but wondered if this was another possible solution?
cheers guys

100mhz is correct, not sure how that bit works, hopefuly some nice member might be
able to shed some light. :)

Edit: What's your spec and are you overclocking.

Nope, it's the frequency at which the slot exchanges data with the card. 100 MHz is the standard but when overclocking it is sometimes necessary to give it a tiny bump in speed to maintain stability. Needing 101 MHz for stability is common. If you're not overclocking it's very unlikely that this is your problem.

I wouldn't use Crysis as your stability tester since the game is badly in need of a patch. Do other games crash?

so your comptuer is crashing under load?

run a CPU stresser and see if it crashes during that

then run a GPU stresser and see if it gets through that.

call of duty 4 runs fine, smooth and full specs. it crashed without warning once but i think its not related.
I'm not overclocking, but im thinking about it soon. cranking up my CPU by a ghz or so. full specs are:-
dual core e2180 2ghz
2gb geil ddr2 ram
8800gt

Do you guys think it could be a faulty disc? there were problems on install as well, had to copy all the files onto hard disc and install from there as when installing from the disc it said some were missing. also it wont let me repair the installation, just goes non responsive. by the way the error message when crysis crashes is crysis.exe. ive read a few forums with people having similiar problems.

so it seems likely problem is either :- game needs patch, faulty disc, or ram problem?

and finally can you tell me how to do those stress tests?
many thanks

run orthos to test your CPU, for 8 hours or so (usually they'll crash in the first half hour if they're going to) and monitor the temperatures whilst that is running

to stress the GPU, you can use the stress tester in the nvidia software (nvidia control panel), again monitor the temperature while you do this.

Some need change the PCI-E after overclocking the FSB, or they crash.

Some use 101mhz, others 105mhz, others 110mhz, and others the Max Safe IMO 115mhz.

Just what is says, if you do not understand, leave it at AUTO or if you think you have issues set to 100mhz and dont OVERCLOCK the CPU.

Quoted :

I dont understand if you are asking if you should change that 100mhz to same as your GPU's Core or Shader or Memory speed, for one you wont reach any of them speeds and if you did the Mobo would fry.

The PCI-E Freq on my Mobo is 100-200mhz, 115mhz been safe max.
