pcu/gpu/mobo upgrade

i got a Gigabyte H61MA-D3V Socket 1155 on its way.

i have the 460 here.
i'm waiting on the i3 2100.

when i get all this, i was made aware that i will have to reinstall my vista 32 os, as a new mobo is treated as a new system?

will i have to re-format my hdd?

hopefully i will not have to flash the bios?

i'm just preparing myself for the final hurdle!

Most people recommend a clean install. But the the first time i upgraded i just connected up my hdd with the OS installed from the other mobo and just installed all the new mobo chipset drivers, never had any problems. If you do have any problems, then do a fresh install.
If, you do go for a fresh install, there is no need to reformat the hdd. Back up any data you want to keep. Just install Vista over the existing OS, but you can take the option to save all files and folders to "windows. old". Then sort what you want to keep and then delete "windows. old" to free up space.
Any problems or questions, just post back.

good advice.

everything got done!
the mobo, gpu and cpu.
the 'window.old' folder was there with everything intact :)

1) my rom/write drives where old ide, and there was no ide on the mobo for them.
i was thinking of ide to sata adaptors?

2) i bought 2gb of ram, as that was all i could buy from the shop at the time.
i've ordered another 2gb stick.

i booted up stalker and maxed it out. everything went wrong as soon as you leave the sellers bunker and emerge into the stalker camp.
it just choked up bad!
i checked the ram usage and it was at 1.79.
my mate looked at me and just said, "you need at least 4gb to max out stalker methinks".
reducing some of the settings such as 'grass shading' slightly did make quite a bit of difference.
i hope another 2gb will fix the problem, as an i3 and a gtx 460 should be ample to run something like stalker.
