PDA phone

Had a closer look at a review of the Asus P750 - it looks awesome! I want it now. Found a good review on modaco.

Not to derail this thread - but are there any other QWERTY keyboard mobiles coming out soon? Just got a Vario 3 and thought Id ask if theres anything better in the near future...

ps3ud0

Nice video of the iPAQ 614c in action here.

I'm actually tempted by the HP now.

Pretty much the same width and thickness of the Asus but 4mm taller.

The thing thats putting me off with the Asus is the RAM size. PPC mobiles are now coming with 256MB ROM and 128MB of RAM. Indeed, both the IPAQ and HTC Kaiser feature this. But every preview or data sheet I read for the Asus state 256MB ROM but only 64MB RAM. If thats the case, then its a gross oversight by Asus.

Rest of the spec is pretty familar. The iPAQ doesn't feature an FM radio like the P750. The HP comes with a higher capacity battery than the Asus, 1590 mAh v 1300 mAh.

Comparison of the 2 devices here.

Yup, both use the Microsoft Pocket PC OS that utilises the touch screen and therefore come with a stylus.

Its the Windows Mobile Smartphone OS that doesn't use touch screen technology. This is normally used on handsets that have a number pad (like the P750 and iPAQ 614c) so I can see why you asked the question.

Pre-order price for the iPAQ 614c is currently £359.95. Quite good I think seeing as the Kaiser is around £460.

Yup I'd probably pay that - assuming it lives up to it's spec.

I think I'd have to see both the Asus + HP in the flesh before buying though.

The Asus is going to have to increase the RAM to 128MB and be around the same price as the HP for me to get one.

Think I'll put my pre-order for the iPAQ in later tonight.:)

Bit of a bump... still waiting for a decent solution to arrive on the market

Latest I read in a magazine was that the HP 614c is due sometime in February this year.

Both the HP 614C and Asus P750 appear to have been released, but stocks are somewhat limited.

E-ten's X600 looks nice, as does their soon-to-be-released X650, looks quite nice, but the battery life sounds a bit worrying.

Sony Experia X1 is a definite option; big screen, WM-based, 3.5mm audio jack, so I might well wait for that to come out.

down for 2nd half 2008 but nothing specific yet,

also tmobile mda compact 4 due out May looks very sleek

saw the review of the P750 on modoco, looks quite a brick in the flesh and rather business like

Damn. :(
HP614c is available with £50 cash-back if purchased in March. :D
My poor credit card.

I think I'll wait on the Sony Xperia X1 - hopefully late 2008.

I don't upgrade often - in fact I'm still using a Sony Ericsson T610!

There's also a new Asus model

I bought a 614c earlier this week, with £50 cashback :D

Very good device, is a phone with a pda, not a pda with a phone, which my MDA was, and it caused me problems as one handed use was hard, this i can use like a phone, google maps with gps is pretty nifty too, I have no hesitation in recommending it.

Some users have reported problems. The main ones:
Noisy Bluetooth
Low phone volume

What are your experiences?
