PDA phone

The Sony X1 looks great, though onboard memory is around 400mb. MP3 / 3rd party programs going to be limited - (though would only be looking for skype and tomtom) apart from that it looks brilliant.

Note : No 3.5mm?

havent used a headset for bluetooth,
volume seems fine to me, there is a slider to turn it up
gps and google maps is good too.

it is a bit slow and clunky though and have reset it a couple of times, but these should be fixed with new software soon.

Im in this very postion at the moment between the IPAQ 614C or the Asus P750, i like the looks of the IPAQ more but the Asus has non asisted GPS meaning Tom tom can be instaled and it work like a proper GPS the only thing letting it down is the RAM size, to any P750 users does this affect it much?

TomTom works with the 614c (according to various other users)
Assisted GPS is ordinary GPS except that it uses additional data from mobile phone services. wiki

BTW the P750 apparently has a VGA screen, but the firmware operates it in QVGA mode. Hacks are available to enable VGA.

The 614 is now only £270 (incl VAT) and you can get £50 cashback if purchased before July!

Thanks, think im going to order the P750 as the HP has to many niggles like switching betwwen 3G and 2G, Headphones only on mini USB, i have read that the asus has a VGA screen too which definatly appeals to me for mobile web surfing and i know that tom tom 6 will definatly work as they use the Sirf Star III chipset in a few of there devices, now all i need is 150x SDHC card.

Although i have seen the Ipaq for around £230, does the £50 cashback come from HP then? because that will take it down to about £180 then

The cashback does come from HP. However the cashback only applies to certain part numbers. It is possible to get a HP614C that the cashback DOESN'T apply to.

[edit]The valid part numbers for the 614 are FA992AA & FA992AT

I use an XDA orbit, with 8gb memory card, extended rom with 4 sided cube, tomtom works brill, instead of wired headphones, i use a motorola s9 stereo bluetooth headset

An update - I've still not bought a convergent device!

In fact, to tide me over - my old sony ericsson T610 died - I've bought a crappy w100i (it's actually quite good for a basic phone!)

I still think it's worth holding out for Sony E's X1, or perhaps the 3G iPhone which has a better 3.5mm audio jack allowing all headphones. Personally, I feel WM6.1 and WM7 will rule the day, allowing users more customisation and flexibilty.

Got my Asus P750 today, what a phone, i havent set it up yet but the 5 minuite go i had on windows mobile was so much better than starndard phones, had the mick taken outta me at work as its slightly larger than a normal phone, pics will follow at around 7-8 tonight.

02 dont have any of the settings for my phone can someone help me out please, i.e MMS GPRS also having issues with the GPS at the moment it doesnt appear to be connecting but ive only had a little play around with it as i have to go out now.

cheers

Yeah I'm just paranoid of snapping it off - particularly the mini-usb sockets.

If it's any consolation, I've done that once, and it was the headphone USB bit that snapped, the socket itself was undamaged.

Annoying, but a helluva lot cheaper to replace.
