Pda with sat nav

im using tomtom navigator 5 on my HX4700pda

the VGA screen is great for map browsing and in a totally different league to the QVGA screen on my dads rx3715

ive got UK, france and benelux maps and it hasnt let me down yet

@ Richdog
The Mio 168 gps doesn't have bluetooth which is one of the things i want. Thanks anyway.

@Demon
I'd still be looking at an DELL X51 (X51V if you want the VGA Screen) + either CF SirfIII GPS or BT SirfIII GPS, top notch 624Mhz WM5 PDA with the best GPS Chipset, or that Fujitsu Loox mentioned previously..
What sort of prices can all this be bought for?

Done a bit of looking around and if i went and bought..

DELL X51V = £240
CF GPS cards with SIRFIII = £40+
Navigation software = £100

That would be a total of £380+. The Asus MyPal 636 is only £325 but not as good spec PDA.Still undecided and so confusing what and where to look my the items seperate.

Seems like you a better shopper than me, so I'm sure you can find a Dell x51 quite cheap.

The Fujitsu Loox N560 has a similar spec to the x51v, including VGA, but has GPS (SirfStar 3) built in and no CF slot, only SDIO. ~£380

The prices that i showed earlier in the thread were taken from other peoples comments,as yet i haven't found them at these prices.

Try the MIO A201
Thanks i will have a look. :)

I have read a lot of reivews but still looking for the best deal.By the way i can't find that site existing anywhere (gpsreview.co.uk).

Yes i tried google but i typed in what you said gpsreview.co.uk.

I will take a look at those sites. :)

Just been looking again at the MIO 201 mentioned earlier in the thread and have found it for £280.81 (£329.95 incl. VAT) which is TomTom Navigator 5 Software & GB Maps (Preloaded SD Card) + Mio A201

Is this a good deal and is it a decent sytem for what i need both pda and satnav use?

my Palm TX with tom tom, bluetooth reciever, and car kit cost £299 including P+P and VAT, so there are some bargains out there.Google ''palm tx and tom tom''

The A201 is a very very average PDA, 312Mhz, 64Mb ROM, SD Slot only, no WiFi, etc, etc.. It would do the job though, but you can get better for around that price..

PDA - the TOP End DELL X51V PDA (624Mhz, BT/WiFi, VGA Screen, CF/SD Slots, WM5, 128Mb ROM etc) - £229 + delivery (free if you go and pick it up!)
Ebay X51V (New from a shop)

OR just a 416Mhz Standard X51 - £172.99 from EBAY (Still BT/WIfi/CF/SD/128Mb/WM5)

TOMTOM5 Software, genuine, on SD Card = £99 from numerous online shops

And a GPS can be had from Ebay, I'd recommend a seperate BT jobbie, but you can go Compact Flash if you want.. depends on intended usage, these range from £40 - £70

Or if you want the best, you can get the TOMTOM5 Bluetooth GPS + Software for £175 from a number of places..

depending on what you want..

The Ultimate is the X51V with TOMTOM5 and Genuine TOMTOM BT GPS, this would be £229 + £175 = £404, but this is leagues better then the other PDA solutions you have been looking at.

Or a normal X51 + TOMTOM S/W and BT GPS = £347, still a much better PDA then those you've been looking at, and all genuine TOMTOM GPS/Software

Or cheapest would be the standard X51, BT GPS from ebay at £48 and TOMTOM software £99 for £319.99..

At the end of the day, any PDA with TOMTOM is going to do the SATNAV well, but as a PDA with WM5, you really want to be getting something with some power and expandability
1. ROM size is a big issue on WM5 devices, all programs etc are stored on the Flash ROM, the bigger the better, 64Mb is only just adequate, 128Mb is much more flexible, people are using SD cards to store some of their programs on, but this is much slower and has some issues with certain software, SD cards are best left for data storage, maps/music/videos etc..
2. WM5 is like Windows XP, it needs a slightly beefier processor, 312Mhz is really pushing it.
3. The Integrated GPS PDA's are a bit bulky depthwise, the GPS antenna takes up a lot of real estate, which is why sacrifices in CF/SD slots/Wifi/BT are always made.. having an external GPS (or CF if you want it physically attached to the PDA) you can replace this, or leave it behind if you want, I just leave mine in the car, since it's Bluetooth, you just switch the PDA on, launch TOMTOM, and it's all automatic, no faffing around.. when I take the PDA from the car, it's easier to 'pocket' being so slim..

Thanks Demon info much appreciated.I have never been one for buying from the bay and would prefer to go the retail route, and want new some of them are showing as reconditioned. Also the first link you posted doesn't seem to say what type of antenna it uses.

WHen it says this do you get the cd aswell or just the SD card?

Guess this is not from OC,but is it new as i can't seem to find it for that price anywhere?

The one he links to is the X50v, how different is that to the X51v?

Sorry to jump in ajm, I'm now looking for a X51v as well just trying to find the best price. :o
