Peacocks in trouble ?

There's a Peacock's in my local town. In about 6 years of it being there, I've been in about 3 times, usually out of desperation, and have never bought a single thing from there.

Just imagine a shop that sells things that River Island et al sold 2 years ago (and are now out of fashion) but made from that really nasty clingy material that crackles when you touch it.

That's Peacocks.

Surprised it isn't already out of business.

My local one seems to do what most retailers of this type do and stock virtually no men's clothes at all. No work wear, only t-shirts and jeans.

I am however wondering if some stores are putting out these messages because they want to negotiate their rents down. Philip Green has gone on record saying that he'll be closing shops if he can't renegotiate rents. I suspect part of the reason so many high streets are empty is landlords not wanting to offer rents substantially lower then what their existing tenants are paying.

Got one in my home town and its where old women that dont shop at M&S go to get their knickers.

One of the best places to get a tank top or button front cardigan.

Never seen one in my life! English or Welsh store?

There are quite a few dotted around - even David Cameron vists...

I bought a coat out of there the other day, first time i've been in. I wouldn't make it my first choice, but i did like this coat.

In my local town, we used to have a little "department store" called Sunwin House (not sure if they are everywhere or just a Yorkshire thing). It closed down about 4 years ago, and it was empty for a while until Peacocks moved in.

A lot of the staff who worked at Sunwin House were given jobs at Peacocks after being out of work for a few months (my mum knows one of them). Now it looks like they've all got that huge uncertainty hanging over their heads and another potential redundancy all over again. :(

Suprised they are saving that many stores or the brand at all but it is good news for those staff keeping their jobs. The ones near us are never busy (although these are getting the chop). EWM never seems busy either although looking at their company profile they seem in good health with £25m liabilities yet £179m assets and £150m cash in bank and growth though the recession. Financial skills from a Scotish company for the win.
