One of the biggest bands of the early 90s grunge scene & I realised I couldn't name a single number of theirs.

Not a huge fan of the genre per se but I know all Nirvana's hit singles and albums so I dug a bit deeper with AI and asked for all their famous tunes and listened on Spotify.

Not a single one registered.

Strange that, it's not like I was living under a stone back then. I can only assume they were never a singles band, bit like Led Zep.

Do we have any fans here?

Jeremy is the biggest one. It’s on my main playlist. I am struggling to think of another though. I’m sure they were much bigger in America than here.

Used to have a cassette, Pearl Jam Live at Jones Beach. Had ‘10’ on CD. Didn’t ready dig them or Nirvana, but Alice in Chains were the grunge band that I admire most.

Once, Jeremy, Black, Even Flow, Do The Evolution, Better Man, Rearviewmirror... Pearl Jam are my favourite band from the grunge era and Eddie is still one of my favourite lyricists and singers. Nirvana are actually the one I like least. Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, The Melvins and Soundgarden I still have all their albums I bought back in the day. The only Nirvana CD I have is Nevermind and I only have that as it was a Christmas present from back when it released.

Their first three albums were very very good - Ten in particular is a classic album with no bad tracks (Black being it's highlight imo).
They stood out from the rest of the grunge bands by not being massively involved in heroin and out of AiC, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Mother Love Bone singers.. Well only Eddie is still alive (as he told us in Ten).

One of my fave bands from that era, they also formed a collaboration band with Soundgarden called Temple of the dog which was also epic :D

Black, Given To Fly, Jeremy, Alive, Once, Corduroy, Go, Better Man, Do the Evolution, Nothing As it Seems, Animal... so many great songs.

Rearviewmirror - quite possible one of the best greatest hits compilations ever

Thank me later

Nirvana are actually the one I like least.
Hot take but Nirvana were to grunge what Limp Bizkit were to new metal. Lots of mainstream coverage but far better bands out there

Ten and Vs. are without doubt both in my personal top 10 albums of all time and I think I would struggle to think of a better one than Ten

If you haven't seen it, watch their MTV Unplugged from the 1990's. Amazing performance and when Eddie's vocals where at their best. Certainly one of the best male Rock / Grunge voices of the last 30 years along with Chris Cornell and Myles Kennedy and others.

I saw them live at the Co-Op live a few years ago in Manchester. Amazing as always, but the sound was rubbish so that was unfortunate. And Eddie had a cold but the crowd helped out.

Saw them age 16 at Wembley Arena in 196. It was pretty great

Ironically, I can't really bring myself to listen to guitar music anymore as it bores me death. How musical tastes change...

I got into them not long after Vs. came out. I'd somehow missed Ten during its original release

I remember buying the third album the morning it was released and was soooo disappointed - I just couldn't get into it.

Definitely my fav grunge band though. If I'm completely honest I never was much of a Nirvana fan.

i always rated pearl jam much higher than nirvana - prefer the first 2 albums but some later ones are good (but i dont have them all).
I like stone temple pilots better though :)

Ten is an incredible debut album. Nothing after that touched the same level which is strange given the talent. Live on Two Legs is a very good live recording and one I still spin on Cd regularly. I bought Vs, Vitalogy, Yield, No Code, Binaural but nothing after that. I think the production on the first album was unusual for the times and it really captured a moment. There was a really heavy reverb on it which Brendan O'Brien remixed out of it later on. I prefer the original. I think Eddie Vedder has an incredible voice and his on stage acrobatics in the early days were crazy.

For some unknown reason, I find the vocal style / delivery of Pearl Jam extremely distracting. It sounds like a parody.

hhhbbheeeuUuUuUUUgh-ayyyyyyy

I just have an aversion, just like how this might make you go… ugh:

Well thanks for curating a great playlist to explore on this thread.

Really don't know how they passed me by but, that said, AiC is another one whose stuff I don't know; more familiar with Nirvana and Soundgarden though.

At that time I'd have still been listening to older acts - RHCP, FNM, Pixies etc.
