Pentium D805

Didnt he spec DDR2-667?

But yes, there arent any 945\955 chipset boards supporting DDR1.

I thought the OP was asking if his current RAM was useable? Which it isn't in this case. Correct me if I've got the wrong end of the stick, this thread is pretty quick moving.

Thats a shame, is Corsair no longer top dog for Ram anymore?

Just saw that Patriot ram listed :)

P.S. I was asking if my current ram would run in it.

Oh ok, sorry. As for RAM, how about the Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2-5400 TwinX (2x512MB) (MY-059-CS) ?

I know nothing about DDR2 so I'll pass on that one, the Patriot looks excellent for the price though :)

Other motherboards will support this processor and ddr1 ram like the asrock twins but 8 phase voltage thingymabob is needed for 4ghz?

I would say so, yes. For long-term stability 8-phase power seems to be a better option.

Thats a nice spec, and the 805s are a bargain, but from what I've seen they run HOT so you might want to invest in an aftermarket cooler, like the AC Freezer 7.
Not particularly, mine is running at under 50degC ( from memory 47 ) at 100% folding load at 3.7Ghz on stock cooling.

Oh for the record, whilst getting to run at this speed is pretty good don't forget that that review was highly biased. 3.7 really is about the max on air ( which is a pretty damned good OC ) that is just about comparable to a stock 3800+. Push a 3800+ to it's limit's ( around 2.5Ghz) and it'll beat a smithfield.

All this talk of 4ghz.... I think im going to have to get myself one :D

Had the same thought for a work or so now :D

P4 805 Smithy
Scythe Ninja Plus
P5WD2 Prem
2x512MB OCZ Gold GX 5300
Tagan 580W U22
Gainward Bliss 7300GS 256MB

Comes to around £480 inc VAT and Delivery... Not bad at all imo.

Not Really a PC gamer tbh. Got a X360 for games. Would be a nice and quick setup to mess around with :D

Ill probably go for something along the lines of raikiri's original spec but with a 500w enermax psu and a cheaper gfx. Got this current pc im on for gaming. Plus i just painted up my antec lanboy case and it looks so good it needs to be put to use :D

Although ill be going for an arctic freezer pro with it because i want 4ghz but also reasonably quiet.

I wouldn't bank on 4ghz on air with any cooler. 3.6-3.8 seems to be the spot where you'll really hit the air wall as you start having to ramp up FSB etc.

You MAY make it but I'd target 3.7 and be happy with anything above rather than targetting 4.

Mate of mine has his @ 4.1GHz I think. Air cooling.

I think shooting for 4GHz isnt that bad. I know, I will when I get one :D

Will try and get some more specs when I talk to him next.

im new to intel overclocking anyway to it will be a learning experience, and if it doesnt do 4ghz ill set it on fire or something, teach it some manners :D

Mach 2 GT is for sale now to fund the PD 805 Rig :D

Iam doing it on a budget, total cost so far is 114 for everything using my existing hsf and ram. Dont think I'll be able to use the integrated graphics for Bf2 :p but I'll give it a go since it would load quicker on low graphics anyway.
If I have to buy another card then I can deduct what the old one sells for which means another 20 or so for gfx.

Plus the system is compatible with conroe, I will give details later if it all works out :)

Dont you want to hold onto the Mach GT2 incase it works nicely for cooling the 805

Unfortunately it would require a different mounting kit. Altho i play to try out dry ice sometime soon :D either on my 3800x2 or maybe the PD 805.
