Pentium D805

Ive brought it all just waiting for it to arrive now and give it a go, the motherboard was asrock twins which is a compromise but like I say its a budget system so I cant have it all. Iam pretty sure they'll have to update the bios for conroe even if it is hardware compatible and maybe they'll let the volts be modded from that bios version onwards :)

The setup wont be compatible with Conroe. Conroe and Merom need new boards. Something to do with the power setup on the current 955 and 975 chipsets.

Intel 975x 'Bad Axe' rev 302... is the only board thats out now and can be modded to use a Conroe by the looks of things now.

The only thing that would be compatible with Conroe, would be the memory, psu, gpu etc. Would need to get a new board.

Yea, there was talking on another forum about it.

iirc the spec on the .tw site or one similar to that said nothing about Conroe support.

Ive not seen any people using Conroe on the board yet.

I might be wrong, but I doubt that the board would support Conroe. Who knows. Only time will tell when someone try's a Conroe on it...

That board claims to support Core Duo (conroe), is this correct?

Nobody knows, Iam guessing yes and it says so which is pretty surprising from a budget board maker.
Maybe its because its not an intel chipset, no doubt intel wanted to sell lots of new chipsets to go with the new processor but these guys working off a white paper or whatever came up with some clever solution based in present technology.
I only heard about conroe a few weeks ago so dont ask me :D

Depends on the cooler, but the stock one seems pretty quiet. My system is pretty quiet, certainly doesn't cause a noticeable amount of noise to my ears.

I bet the stock cooler is ok, it talks about 4 pin though and thought it would have to be 3pin to be speed controlled. Anything retail comes with the cooler I think but mine isnt being supplied with one so Iam going to use a Zalman flower which should be better anyhow

Im really thinking of getting myself a rig with this CPU but im worried about its gaming potential once overclocked to say 3.8GHz. I wanna know if it will run recent games maxed out with a x1800xt.

Anyone shed some light?

Be fine, most games fsb and graphics blocked anyways, run at higher res and any cpu seems to produce same fps with most graphics card

Its probably about the same, maybe a little slower at stock. But is supports SM3.0, runs a lot cooler than the X850XT, doesn't need an external power connector and clocks very nicely indeed (it will outperform an overclocked X850XT).

Failing that there are some amazing second hand bargains in the MM at the moment.

MM? Classifieds? If so what are the requirements for access... 100 posts or something similar?

Same here, which game really needs 3.8ghz cpu ? I ran my system at 1.2ghz accidentally the other day and didnt notice for an hour on BF2

Depends on the game, FPS really aren't that CPU intensive as they don't have complex physics engines etc.

Combat Flight sims OTOH can REALLY crease a CPU. Put a dog fight of 30-40 aircraft together and you'll need all the horsepower you can get.
