People are stupid - petrol station rant

on the rare occasions that i have used tesco for fuel the pump has allways been out of recipt paper which i also needs for vat returns so dont even bother using pay at pump any more due to this, once bitten etc

The worst thing is when peoply try and move your motorbike/helmet because they can't be bothered to wait for you to pay, that REALLY ticks me off.

I also refuse to use pay at the pump, it always goes wrong and means carrying cards, if I need petrol I get £10's wortth and just pay with a note :)

I hate that station also.

Many an arguement I have had with people hovering. I always queue behind a pump, its just civil.

Saw you in there the other day, was in the other halfs Micra though, saw you whizzing out sometime around lunch :)

Same at the Wigan one, there is a crossing right infront of the petrol station and one on the road of it Tesco cant plan petrol stations, Asda's is great you drive in and you can either head into Wigan or go back into Asda.

Just a note on using the pump on the "wrong side" of the car.
I refuse point blank to be lumped in with this "idiots" group - at my own choice I choose in 99% of cases not to use the pump on the opposit side to my filler cap.
Yes, the hose will reach so long as you're not parked a mile away from the pump in question.
However I would rather not have the hose rubbing over the bodywork of my car which can and does happen in this situation.

If people get upset when people use the "wrong side" then it is their own fault.
I on the other hand will happily watch people fill from the wrong side and wait for a pump on my filler side to become available.
I'm not an idiot - just my choice.

Oh and something I must also just pick up on.
Yellow hashes (the same as in a box junction) does not mean no stopping.
The amount of people I see who jump up and down when I stop in the middle of a box junction amazes me - I've had people try and quote how things work to me.
Yellow hashes (and box junctions) should not be entered unless your exit is clear.
If I'm turning accross traffic at a box junction, so long as my exit is clear I can sit in that box junction as long as I like.

I am normally pretty quick (well as quick as the pump allows) and if there is a queue as soon as I have filled up I pull forward/park up so that other people can use the pump whilst I pay.

Which you really shouldn't be doing - haven't you read the numerous "Please do not pull off the pumps" signs around in a lot of garages these days?
A mate of mine works the pumps and one of his biggest gripes are those people who fill-up and then pull off the pump to allow someone to use it before they have paid.
The time they think they are saving the other motorists is then lost as their systems get all rather upset.

RE: Pulling forward.
If the cashier is on his toes this shouldn't be a problem - most tills use Edacom or Meggit fuel delivery/till systems which are capable of storing 2 seperate transactions on each side of each pump. Actually, if it's really busy you can transfer one over to the till side and suspend it which means a total of 3 transactions "saved"
We used to get large lorries filling up, and with a 100 litre cut off they'd have to restart the pump a few times so I had to handle this type of transaction a lot. It shouldn't really cause any bother if the cashier is paying attention, though it CAN get a little complex when people forget how much they put in and you have 2 amounts "flashing" to be tilled in.

RE: Pump pipes damaging the car when you are using the "wrong side"
Never ever seen this happen, the pumps are made of relatively soft plastic material and I don't see how it could cause damage to a car body unless you started whipping it with some serious gusto. Also, if you pull far forward enough you can bring them round behind the boot where they barely touch the corner of the rear 3/4 panel. Hell, you can hold the pump in one hand and lift the hose clear of the body if you're really worried.

RE: People paying in shop when they are using pay at pump tills:
Like atpbx, this really gets on my ****. These lanes are normall marked as "Express Lanes", they are for people in a hurry who want to use them as they are intended. I actually think stores should remove the "pay at till" option from them.

This Tesco in question has pay at the pump on almost all of the pumps. I generally pay in the koisk though, as I am usually purchasing other things then I go. Also, I collect the school vouchers, which you dont get if you pay at the pump.

Your bound to get to get silly people in a Tesco's garage as you just need to go in the supermarket really. Their behaviour will be pretty much the same really.

Some people probably don't use the 'Pay at Pump' option as they are scared of using it, you know technology and all that.

I never use the wrong side pump either for I'm never in that much of a rush and can wait five minutes and also have seen the results of someone rubbing their paintwork. Perhaps they were a moron and were heavy handed with it but I wouldn't polish my car with a dirty rag so I wouldn't trust a hose covered in grit etc on it either.

:)

I rarely use the pay at pump option at Tesco unless I'm in a rush as I can't find my full size clubcard, only the smaller keyfob one which doesn't fit into the reader :(

You also can't use the 5p off voucher at the pump, or collect the school vouchers. As a side note, I paid 80.9 yesterday with my 5p off voucher \o/
