OK, so anyone with a Perc 5i/6i card, what are you using to keep your cards cool?

Some people have changed the heatsink and added a chipset fan to it, others have suspended large fans in front of it?

Reason I ask is there designed for servers which have high airflow running through the case and in a desktop case, there isnt much airflow and these cards have been known to hit 100c or more

yeh these cards need active cooling on the IOP as they really burn up - the secondary chip doesn't get so hot and the ramsinks do a good job on there but the IOP needs either active cooling with the original sink or a good chipset heatsink on there with some airflow.

mines been running like this for a good 8mths 24/7

and some fancy pink nail polish to pins 5/6 :)

Good shout gonna mod mine later, think I have a few old pentium fans which should screw straight on :p

The pin 5 & 6 thing had me confused for awhile, got a sliver of parcel tape on mine :D

That looks good, what did you use to stick the ram sinks on with and have you just bolted on that fan to the original heatsink fitted?

Trying to find parts that other people like yourself have used to do to mine before I install it.

Thanks

This has been used on the IOP I believe...

Thanks for posting the pic above and the link to the Akasa fan.

The heatsinks are these ones: (They stick directly on with tape they have on them)

4 of them together fit like a charm.

With the Akasa fan I just stuck it on the top of the existing heatsink. I did originally try removing the heatsink that is already there, and putting the fan (with its healsink) directly on the top. But the chip butts out, and it just won't be secure. Hence sticking it directly on the existiong heatsink, which is surprisingly stable.

(oh yep. I did take the opportunity of putting on some new arctic silver type stuff on the chip whilst it was exposed, which will probably help to keep it cool)

Am about to plug the whole thing into the computer for the first time, so fingers crossed :)
