Performance chip for A6 2.7T

If I remember rightly its not the same engine as the S4 although the block might be. The 2.7T has k03 turbos and the S4 had K04s turbos with different internals to handle the extra power. I would have though more than 30bhp was to be had with a remap though.

Is it going to make any difference? I can get 20bhp for £250 apparently but thought it would be a waste of time?

20bhp for £250 is good, you'd be surprised how much difference it can make. My mpg also went up a little.

20bhp doesn't sound like a lot, but like I said earlier. Over the entire rev range it makes a nice difference.

20bhp for £250 is definately worth it, and you should deffo notice a difference.

Spoken like a true Type-R owner, getting 30bhp more out of a Honda lump is an expensive process! :D

So true :(

The car should just feel more 'peppy' and responsive. Sure, it's not suddenly going to start trying to snap your neck and push your eyeballs into the back of your head, but it should feel noticably better, more 'eager'.

What really? It would give me 250bhp, what sort of difference would I notice?

Errr, more power? :p

Should pull harder up the top towards the limiter, and you shouldget more of a willingness to rev throughout the rev range.

If my car with 1.8 litres and a single KO3s can find 50-70bhp (don't know yet) then I'm not struggling to believe they could get good gains from yours! what is the stock boost? Custom code are vag specialists and came out to me direct from head office in chesterfield for £300. they were amazing, give them a look.

try some of them free trials which put a remap on your car for a few hours and see. If you like it, get it done. If you don't think its worth the money, walk away.

If power, torque and economy all improve with these remaps, what gives?

The map out of the factory is one size fits all and very conservative to allow for bad fuel, lack of servicing, warranty etc. Getting a custom map done for the engine allows much more fuel trim, and fine tuning of the spark to increase power and (sometimes) reduce economy. The likelihood is though that with more power available you hoon around more and use even more fuel than before!

Don't think of it as +20bhp peak power.

You are likely to see large gains in torque right across the rev range. I know you're not a 'performance' guy but you'd notice it pulling harder from lower down the rev range; making overtaking et cetera much more effortless.

Coming from an automotive connaisseur like yourself i find that an odd question? :)

what would they do to your car for £250? what do the company claim it will do?

Well, my brother had a 2001 2.7Twin Turbo Quattro A6, std is 230BHP, and yes, they do have the same turbo's as the S4.. in fact I think the engine is identical.. the RS6 has the same bottom end apparantly, and it's just the turbo's/ intercoolers/injectors that are different.. my brother was trying to get some KK06's and intercoolers, but he went for the E39 M5 instead.

The best remap turned out to be the cheapest, £375 and the guy went up/down several roads pulling 3rd gear from 40MPH to max revs tweaking the boost map each time.. some VAG performance place near Oxford.. RR confirmed 319BHP!.. not bad for £375. The tuning process is quite easy, you can see realtime the requested and actual boost, and using an external boost guage was spot on..

The difference was night/day obviously, and I have to say that for a barge, did that thing have some amazing lateral grip and amazing traction through the bends... a bit twitchy when it hit a bump mid bend.. but surprisingly surefooted.

When he picked up his M5, I drove the Audi back following him, and had a bit of a laugh with a Focus ST, absolutely leaving it for dust every time...

I doubt people on here would ever consider an A6 2.7T, but having driven my brothers, it's got some pretty accessible performance with more then decent handling..

As for the fuel arguments. I don't find mine any worse, maybe slightly better on the run. but I use more power now as I have more. so in the same driving style and speed I have no reason to think they wouldn't be better on juice, just don't think anyone who would want a re-map, would not want to use the extra power! lol

not every engine is built equal. they all vary from the factory despite strict tolerences. a map for a 330i for one car will be slightly different to another at some point. custom mapping simply sets it up perfect for the individual car.

cars are also designed largely by location i.e. japan market, european market, USA market etc so different countries have different regs but its cheaper to put a map on a car that will cover all of them. therefore it's possible to get the car to run how it should, not how it's made too (to get past emissions) and will normally get a better overall feel.

motorbikes are a great example of this as you can get 10-12bhp with a custom map out of just about any motorbike.
