Person of standing within the community

How on earth is photographer on that list. And I love the clear afterthought addition of 'professional', as though they've had a load of applications signed by a mate who has an Instagram account.

I mean no others say professional, surely that's just a given when listing jobs.

I'd imagine there are plenty of people out there who don't have a dentist or GP - particularly in areas where there shortages of NHS dentist practices for example.
Same goes for a lot of immigrants, we have plenty of people moving to the UK who are not very well integrated - for those who haven't got great English skills, other than knowing their employer for example they could conceivably really not know anybody.

You need to get someone to sign the form and the photo no?

The person you got to do that could have done this for you too.

Iirc just has to be somone whos known you x years.

But tbf I get friend of my mum's to do this who has possibly spoken to me maybe 3 times in total so clearly not suitable.

I honestly don't know anyone on that list of professions I have known in my personal life for 3 years (outside of my work).

When I first got mine I wasn't long out of school and still knew the head teacher fairly well as well - these days they've long moved on - though for renewals it can be a bit tricky.

For renewals though I thought you didn't need another signature unless you was unrecognisable between your old and new photo, or unless you had a kids passport.

Yeah usually you don't for a straight up passport renewal, etc. was trying to cover a broader range of subjects though sometimes when you make changes to your details, etc. it can be different.

Sorry, I'm just a bit surprised, I genuinely didn't think there would be many people (if at all) who didn't know at least someone from the list - I mean how do you have a passport or driving license? Presumably you don't if you fit that description of not having anyone to ask. I threw in the comment as I thought it was highly unlikely to apply to anyone, it wasn't meant to have a go at anyone.

Not that surprising, people move around a lot these days. I'd struggle to find anyone locally to sign it, would have to post it to someone and hope they send it back.

Tbh the government gateway site has identity checks anyway so does seem a bit needless.

I'm not sure how having to put something in the post is relevant to what I posted?

well I renewed my passport last month, and didn't even need any signature. Did the whole application online, and even took my passport photo with my phone and used that image to the passport office. No asking for any signature from anybody these days for a passport renewal. Fill in an online form, attach photo and enter payment details, and then post my old expired passport to them.

I just got a mate and he is a plumber to sign the last time I needed it. But that was donkeys years ago.

It's a bit of a nonsense really, but not that difficult a hoop to jump through as the list of acceptable professions is pretty broad. I would guess over one in ten of the population would be potentially eligible, if you knew them. This is borne out by the OP just being able to get someone from work to sign it.

Because we’re awesome? :o:p:D

Pfft, you guys suck. ‘Am I cleared across this airway?’. The one at your 12 o clock 5 miles? Nope ;) And 10 minutes after I’ve told you to route direct to your destination (#Efficiency) ‘can we route direct *destination*?’ Are my personal favourites.

:D It’s a shame you have the second best job in the world, and spend your days speaking to people who have the actual best job :P
