anyways here it is:
Having studied I.T and I.T.G.S at secondary school and spent the past 8 years of my life on computers using them for everything possible that I do, I would like to now to solely concentrate on computing at a Higher Level.
The first years in secondary school was the first chance I really got to experience computers, I had previously used them many times in primary school but never enough for anything to stick. From using them regularly in secondary school, my parents noticed this and decided to invest in buying me my own computer to further improve and increase the time in which I could spend on the computer. Almost immediately it was obvious that I had a natural ability for computers as I had an ability to learn to type quick. This led to compliments from family and friends leading to further advancement in computer skills as I wanted to impress. Having a very computer illiterate family is also partially the reason towards my interest in computers as I was the one who would be asked to fix the problem, although usually I never knew the solution straight away, I would learn to fix it through experimenting. From this I was always the person who had most knowledge and I liked the compliments, and as I got better, more people asked me for help with harder tasks, pushing me to learn how to fix bigger problems and gain more and more knowledge into general computing.
At the current time I am learning basic HTML, Photoshop, PHP + MySQL, through online forums, video training modules, and internet tutorials, and I plan on learning much more into HTML, PHP, and newer skills such as CSS and Java. I Find computers very easy to understand, and because of this I enjoy it and am encouraged to do more and more self training. So far my knowledge is basic HTML, basic PHP, and basic Photoshop. I also have a very broad knowledge on general use of computers; most everyday problems I can usually fix either by my own knowledge, or through the advice of online forums.
I have learnt many new key factors that define me over the past year. Mostly because I have had to become more independent in things such as work and school. I have seen that with persistence and the right motivation, anyone can achieve there goals, it just may take them a while for it to happen.
I am not entirely sure what it is that I would like to do on computers in my future years, this is why I choose the computing HND course as I feel that it will give an in-depth knowledge in a broad range of skills. My main interests are in web-building and coding, however I also enjoy the more graphical side to computing, using such software as Photoshop.
My current knowledge of computers is gained partially through I.T lessons at school secondary schools and I.T.G.S lessons in the I.B, but mainly comes from long periods of teaching myself at home.
Through-out the 2 years of the International Baccalaureate I also had an evening job which consisted of Monday to Friday in the evening. Although at times very difficult, I found that this has contributed to the growth of my character and has taught me important new skills. The main skill which I believe is the most important is that team work is a necessity when it comes to anything. I have viewed people working on there own, and people working as a team and the productivity of the team will always be considerably larger and a more joyful experience. Even though team work is an important skill in life I am contented that my skills with a computer are mostly self taught as this has shown me not to rely on others, that if I want to get something done I should be able to do it myself.
