Guys, im after a bit of help. Came home after work today, went in the back garden with my 4 year old daughter only to find her pet rabbit dead , and without going in to much detail all that was left was the body, no head and it looks like it was ripped off, also the front left leg is missing too. TBH the rabbit itself was quite a large rabbit for something to do this it must have been quite big, but im trying to find out what. I live in the city, in a terranced house with 6 foot fence panels all around the garden, the only things we every see in our garden are cats and the occasional small hawk, but are they capable of doing this?. The only other thing it could possible be is a fox or dog but i have found no traces of a struggle and why would the head be taken and nothing else? Any ideas????

My 4 year is absoultly gutted luckily she didn't see it close up.

Cheers for your help

Urban fox maybe.

More importantly though, Om nom nom. Rabbit makes a nice hearty stew for these long cold nights.

Id put my money on an urban fox. It may well have been eating the rabbit and started biting bits off when it was startled by someone opening a door or something and just grabbed a bit and ran. Its more likely to be a fox than a cat at any rate.

EDIT :- Im suspecting a fox but have never seen any in my local area???

If you want revenge, he spends a lot of time in the motors section...

Aero

EDIT: sorry to hear it tough, never nice o loose a pet, lost my dog recently :(

Certainly sounds like it must have been a fox or a dog, I doubt a domestic cat would do that much damage. Any chavs with dogs in the area?

We just lost our pet cat within the hour. He went out came back in 5mins later and collapsed. We rushed him to the vet who told us he had a blood clot on the spine and with that a very weak heart. So we had to have him put down :( very sad thing to have to make a decision on but there was next to 0% chance of recovery.

Im sorry for the loss of your rabbit :(

You didn't actually say - but did the rabbit have a free run of the whole garden area ?

Was it in a hutch at all, or protected ?

If not, I would say 90% sure it was a fox one of the dog types usually associated with chavs. Dobermans, Pitbulls or Rottwheilers would all just have killed it as a play thing. Just remember that no dog is born agressive - it's created by it's master - so if you have these types of neighbours with this type of dog. Don't go blaming the dog.

Very unlikely a bird or cat - most cats wouldn't probably bother with it and likely wouldn't have enough strength to take its head off.
