My 3.5 mile journey to work only takes about 1 or 2 minutes more when I cycle. In fact it's faster for the first (or last if you go in the other direction) 3/4 of the journey. The main reason it is so close to doing the journey by car is rush hour traffic.

They are high, it's annoying but it'll only get worse due to poor/difficult politics involved and the fact it's a non-renewable energy source.

This is why we went to iraq so we get cheap petrol prices. mission accomplished?

Trouble is after driving all the way to Iraq just to get those cheap prices, once you calculate the mileage it will have worked out cheaper to go to your local garage.

Still, bet you'd only do it once.

its not the petrol or price of crude oil thats expensive, thats really cheap, its the greedy government adding a huge amount of tax to it

Why are there people in this country who think they are owed a living? Driving is a privilege, not a right. If you can't afford then don't drive. It's as simple as that.

Yeah great philosophy

Lets just charge £10 a litre, since its a priviledge to drive.

Can't afford it? Too bad.

I know most of the cost of petrol nowadays in the Uk is just tax and that the retailer is not to blame for the ripoff prices. In the Uk we got probably some of the most expensive petrol in the world but the petrol quality is just the same anywhere else nothing special.Seriously if they charged the same price over at the states or anywhere else as we do for petrol or gasoline there would be riots and noway would anyone be happy with paying that for sure.Over here no one seems too bothered with paying far more for petrol than pretty much anywhere else in the developed world. How do they get away with it in the Uk ?

Since 70% or more of what we pay is tax, government would probably argue they have to raise some money somehow.

What if you have to drive to do your job? I'm a electrician I need a van it's impossible to complete my job effectively without one. Fuel prices go up and so I have to charge you more for the job.. But no it doesn't stop there, The materials I use have to be shipped using the roads so they cost more also. More money on the job. All of a sudden you are paying a nice pretty sum.

Fuel prices are crippling many companies not just your average joe in the street.
