petrol prices

You guys have a tax and a VAT ?

What is VAT ?

You must excuse my stupid questions ,, i was born in Mickey Mouse Town :P
orlando florida

We have duty and VAT, value added tax, it's like your sales tax but only charged once. It's on most things, except food, books, children’s clothes etc...

I have to say one benefit of the petrol prices going up is that the roads have less cars on them. I left Edinburgh around 19:00 with cruise set at 90 and the M8 was dead hardly had to pull into the fast lane. Three months ago it would have been packed.

Where I am at the moment it works out at less than 15p a litre :(

+ I think it's funny seeing Americans moan about their fuel prices on the news, pay a visit to the UK yuo clowns! :D

Americans have it worse than us, despite their cheaper direct prices; their prices have increased by a far larger percentage than ours, ironically, due to our own high level of taxation.

How so?

If our prices were to rise as fast as theirs we would be crippled because we're paying so much already.

Af ew years ago the yanks where paying about $1.50 a gallon. That has jumped to $3.90. Unlike ours which has jumped from around 79 to 115

Not a very big increase compared to the states.

And thats only due to the stupidly high tax on it. That's still a big increase.

Oil now at $135 a barrel. This is looking bad, I wonder how much it will be at the pumps by the end of the bank holiday?

It's already gone up 3p since yesterday here. 6p in 5 days. Grrrrrreat (diseasel).
Dunno what petrol costs. I think it's up an extra 2p on yesterday's prices.

Kinda grateful I "only" have to do 200 miles this / next week. I'm going home to get the bikes.
Anyone know if there's a cycle route map around york?

well my local shell has bumped prices from 106.9 to 112.9 slyly in the last week or so

each day another 'p' is added - unleaded .....

something needs to change

Station I pass on the way to work has gone from 120 to 129 in 9 days for diesel. But saw the same brand at another in the area at 123.

What I don't get is they don't have deliveries every day do they? So whats the justification for these 1p/day increases. More money in their pocket or are they ordered by their petrol company to put it up irrespective.

The actual garages don't make much on the petrol, so they will put the prices up on fuel bought at the lower price to try and get some profit.

It's not the fault of the garages, they're a small fish in this big ocean.

I don't know what all you people are complaining about. Inflation is still REALLY REALLY low, remember.
