petrol prices

We pay a 7% sales tax when the car is bought and it cost me $75.00 a year to register both cars , thats it , no other costs.

The vette does sound pretty good imo :)

The housing market is stupid right now and its because of the 5-7 years of a housing boom that lead to a $150.000.00 house going up to 325-350k and now that the market is settling down a 150k house is now worth 250k and ppl are crying about it

I bought a house for 180k and by the time it was built a year later , it was worth 260k , so i actualy made $80.000.00 the day i moved into the house .

A lot of ppl made a lot of money :)

Interesting, the show I was watching only gave the crash bit of it, and all the people from overseas coming to buy property in Florida for (relatively) cheap prices (average UK House price is £218,112 / $431,816 btw).

Ta (thanks) for the info, I'll listen to the .WAV when I'm not at work ;)

115.9 here now :(

Actually been driving a lot more carefully now and using cruise control a lot less.

Even considering looking at a motocycle for a laugh, although would have to get license first and not sure exactly how competent i would be on one :P

I remember seeing a bit on news 24 where they were saying oil only costs like $3-4 dollars a barrel to produce, so yea..well done oil companies, nice profits.

This really does add to the problem i think, i flat out refuse to use public transport, its just disgusting.
Exactly, stuck there with the conductor walking around after every stop asking for tickets and having to look at the ugliest woman that walked this earth just puts you off.

Seats were also v. uncomfortable.

Edit - I have been on trains in a couple of developing countries, and their economy class is far superior to the one I went on!

On the plus side, public transport means I can get tanked at lunch :o

Where I work seems to be going up one pence every 3 days or so.

Terrible TBH. Just glad I driving something that resembles being economical, although it could be better if there wasn't a hole the size of a ping-pong ball in the exhaust. :p

Simon, you seem to deny at every possibility the fact that oil companies make any money. I'd like to know how you can explain the biblical profits that the big oil companies make . I mean, $17 billion profit for first quarter combined for BP and Shell, this is large.

starting to feel the pinch now in the fuel prices, (for those of dont know i run a small fleet of taxis)

now allowing an average fuel figure of 38mpg for a octavia diesel over a days driving

costs per mile work out as below

current fuel costs

122.9/litre 14.68p/mile

last month

115.9/litre 13.84p/mile

october

95.9/litre 11.45 p/mile

not so long ago

85.9/litre 10.26 p/mile

bear in mind that each one of my cars covers between 1500 and 2000 miles a week

so weekly costs @1500/week

now 220.20
last month 207.60
october 171.50
the good old days 153.9

since october my fuel bill by my figures has went up 48.70 x 5 cars 243 pounds a week or 12 1/2 grand a year

bear in mind taxi fares are set by the council and were set in september for the next 3 years, i honestly see my business failing by the end of this year at this rate.

quick bit of checking if fuel hits 150/litre i'll be paying an estimated(on the low side) another 6k p.a. over what i pay now i'm heartbroken looking at those figures :(i really feel sorry for the guys in the haulage industry my fuel bill is buttons compared to some of them
