petrol prices

Our local BP station had to close for a few days recently for refurbishment. By way of an apology they gave all customers a voucher for 5p per litre off their next refill. But their price is so expensive I can drive a few miles to another station and save 10p per litre.

Would be interested to see how much of the cost over £1 (what it was a few months ago) is extra tax, rather than a result off raw material price increase.

It's not hard to work out is it. Just the 17.5% VAT.

On £1 a litre your paying 14.9p VAT, on £1.20 a litre it's 17.9p. So of the last 20p rise, 3p has been tax.

Diesel has gone up to 122.9 and u/l to 112.9 here at my local Shell station. It's making my 60 mile a day round trip unaffordable. I ot a 4% payrise this yaer, all of which has gone to the governmentin some way, extra £600 on fuel alone. Sick.
