petrol prices

Given that the price of oil has quadrupled, shouldn't the price of petrol at the pumps be more than what it is now? It hasn't even doubled across those five years.

No, because the cost of the actual product itself is far smaller than the taxes added to the final cost at the pump. The cost of producing it has gone up significantly, but the level of duty has not (when expressed as a percentage).

They put it up every week a couple of pence thinking we won't notice ,I guess those putting in a set amount may not ,but I always brim was costing me £44 now its £50 just a few mnoths later !

according to the post in GD about the elite family insider, oil will never run out, not a lot of us believe him, but there are some that do

also it was found out that petrol pumps have been unfairly increasing prices - due to the media frenzy - not because of actual increases in costs

its all the medias fault thats why nobody should buy newspapers

It's the idea of paying VAT on top of the fuel duty that really ****** me off.
It's like vat on your energy bills, a big rip-off. Bearing in mind that the government are also making more in vat out of all the energy price increases.

Did you just make that up? You must have done, as it's completely and utterly wrong.

the AA, said that another $5 leap in the oil price could add a further 2.5p to the price at the pump. "The threat of even higher prices in the pipeline will perch like a vulture above UK forecourts waiting to pick an even bigger hole in the pocket of drivers and consumers," AA president Edmund King said.
go argue with him.

That sounds more like a person living outside of his means if he can't take such a slight increase in expenses before he feels the need to 'have a go' at a moember of the public. Can I suggest a 118d over a Financed M5?

I didn't have a go, I had a moan. I take paying hundreds a month on petrol as a running cost of an M5, i'm getting rid of it soon if I end up losing my job.

It's the principal of it though isn't it, the fuel costs nothing, the tax on it is what is making the price go up and ever since the current king nob has been in charge thats all we've had, tax, tax, tax and sod all in return. It makes me sick. Our troops are in iraq giving the americans a slightly more stable oil price and we get sod all for it.

It doesn't seem so long ago I could fill up at 90p a litre. Doesn't seem so long ago I could get 20 fags for 3 quid or a pint of stella for £1.80. Or a bus fare for 60p.
It's **** living in ripoff britain, taxpayers and motorists especially are just a cashpoint for politicians.

I went to america not so long ago, and everythings so amazingly cheap over there. And people are freindlier, they have more respect, the food in general is better quality and better portions. The government is corrupt like ours but it looks after it's people. It's a nicer place in general and if I could move away from my family and freinds, i'd be away to the airport now, but I can't so I guess i'm stuck in ripoff britain.
