I've had the 530 for a couple of weeks now, and have done about 2500 miles in it. Apart from a couple of tanks of BP Ultimate (which gave better economy but a noticeable performance drop), I've been running it on V-Power.

The problem is, it seems to drink V-Power - the economy on Ultimate is noticeably better, especially on long runs.

Is there any other petrol (Total Excellium? Sainsburys El-cheapo Super?) worth trying, or should I live with it emptying a 70 litre tank in 260 miles of spirited driving when on V-Power?! :p

260 miles from a 70 litre tank?!?!1

Bloody hell !

Anyway, I tried a tank of V-Power, but obviously it doesn't make much difference to power in a 1.6 Focus. My dad uses it and swears it increases economy though, although I didn't notice much. BP Ultimate worth a try for better economy you reckon?

I guess it depends on the individual car, I doubt a 1.6 Focus can really take advantage of higher octane fuel. The M54B30 is designed to run on 98 octane super unleaded, and it certainly seems to improve the performance.

That was completely dry, I got 70.something litres in :(

On longer runs it's better, though.

Indeed. My dad swears by better economy though. He drives a Picasso. His economy is probably getting better as bits fall off it though :D

260 miles from 70 litres is about 17mpg, which is insane.

Not as insane as 250 miles from my 85 litre tank! - The week I first got the car! - lots of short, quick trips. :o

I've more than doubled that figure when on a long run, which is much much better, its a pity I rarely do long runs!

On longer runs it's much better, but down the country roads round here it's just too fun not to put your foot down :o

The other problem with V-Power is that our local garage that was a Shell turned in to a ****** Total a few weeks ago, so I have to go out of my way to get V-Power unless I spot a Shell while I'm out. :(

I get a whole 21mpg in my 220 gsi, its really no good for my somewhat limited wallet but its a whole lot of fun :p
saying that I managed to get 23 mpg from my old 1.4 litre

Ho does Vpower? Shell? I'm currently using the 97ron shell but I could not see any special branding on it, just Shell super unleaded, the normal unleaded got me 431 miles last tank so gonna see what this gets :p

Granted I'm missing 2cyl...

I know - I worded that badly ;)

What I meant was that Shell have stopped doing 'normal' 97 RON super unleaded and sell V-Power now, as far as I know.

Hmm either they have incorrect labelling on their pumps or something is askew! the super unleaded 97ron was defo what it said! 93.9ppl too

After 90 miles on BP ultimate....that stuff cost me £1.03 a litre too! (twas at the time of the fuel scare wasnt risking the standard stuff)

Just under 3 miles per litre then! 35p per mile, heh

EDIT: 13.5 MPG in a Mondeo?

That's mad! I have never got either of our V6 mondeos down below 25mpg on the trip with serious hooning. Mine is chipped and modded to boot. I'd suspect something seriously wrong with your car.
