Peugeot 308 GTi opinions

Ah, you meant Golf Gti, that's not so good for a sprint/hillclimb car as it goes in the class above which is unlimited capacity and typically dominated by things like Gtr, Evos 911 turbo etc.

I thought you meant the 308 GTI which fits in the 1800 - 2600cc category after a 1.4x multiplier for boost.
No, sorry!

I've recently acquired a 308 GTi (270). Previous car was a 2013 Ford Focus ST. It's 18 months old. Some poor soul paid £29k for it.

I personally love it!

No issue with the wheel obscuring the dials with my driving position. Lot of reviews complained about the touch screen as the interface to adjust temperature settings. Again, not an issue for me as I just leave it 21 degrees all year round and rarely touch it.

Power delivery is different to the ST. The ST had lots of torque available low in the rev range. The 308 GTi feels like a 1.6 when driving round town but feels fantastic above 2.5-3k rpm. It's also approx 200kg lighter than the ST, which you can definitely feel when pressing on. The Torsion dif is great. Couple of sweeping slip roads that I regularly drive on that you can keep applying power. No chance of that in the ST. When you need to stop in a hurry, the 385mm Alcon brakes get the job done quickly.

Mine is the Coupe Franche Red/Black paintwork. Looks much better in the flesh that in online pictures and videos. Wife wasn't keen on it initially but loved it when I came home and parked up on the drive after collecting it.

Fuel consumption is also better than the ST. I was averaging 30 mpg. In the Pug, I'm averaging 42 mpg over the same daily routes. Tax is £100 cheaper per year and insurance costs for me have also dropped.

Any updates a year on? I’ve just bought a 2016 model 308 FYI and collect it after Easter.
I’m getting it remapped to 290bhp and updating the brake pads. As I want to use it on track days as well as the road.

I'm planning on getting the rensonator removed and adding a Comkotes TMSR3 air intake box once the 3 year warranty is up on mine, purely just to add a bit more engine and exhaust noise.

Currently searching for repalcement 380mm brake discs.

Mine are fine but have heard people taking their 308 GTi's in for service around the 3 year mark and Pegeout recomending replacement. The discs are custom made by Alcon for Pegeout Sport, so contacting Alcon direct (thinking you might save money) just results in them referring you back to Pegeout. Best price so far is approx £1k, so if mine do require replacement, I'll get those and get my local indy garage to fit them.

I've heard the remap doesn't massively increase BHP but it is noticably improved low down in the rev range for everyday driving.

If you're fueling up with super unleaded and have the remap, then that can improve BHP gains by another 10-15 BHP.

Those of you that have 308s. I've heard that the turbo lag, especially fairly low down in the RPM range, is fairly poor compared to competitors. Whenever I've seen drag races the Peugeot always seems to bog off the line while other cars just take off. Have you found this in yours? Curious as I really like the 308 GTi.

Traffic light grand prixs are not my thing but cant say I've been disappointed when wanting to get away from the lights quickly. Things get small very quickly in the rear view mirror as you quickly make progress down the road.

At the end of the day, you're dealing with the limitations of FWD and also that this is a 1.6 engine at heart, so I wouldn't expect it to blow other hot hatches out of the water in terms of 0-60 times (although you wouldn't find it disappointing).

Where it's great is in gear acceleration, thanks to that engine and light weight of the car.

The light weight of the car is what I immediately noticed from moving from my previous Mrk3 Focus ST and the 308 GTi. It's about 200Kg less and boy did I notice it!

Launch control prob helps

True.

No doubt if Peugeot had included it as standard it would keep up with the competition.

Many of the comparison videos do see it bogging down when attempting 0-60 (the 208 GTi observes the same behaviour). However, in rolling acceleration it makes up for it and it generally does really well when comparing track times with other hot hatches, due to its light weight and braking ability.

Hi all I have recently bought a 16 plate 308 gti 270 .and I must say it does look a lot better in the flesh than it does in the photos I absolutely love it. it's like driving a little go-kart a lot of people complained about the dashboard I don't find it a problem personally the little steering wheel is fantastic the brakes are amazing and it is quick . The slip diff on the front makes cornering so much fun and gives you proper confidence in the car .and also getting about 40 miles to the gallon at the moment which is fantastic for a car of this performance. I also love all the touchscreen takes a bit getting used to but once you have worked it out it's pretty straightforward. Also I've had a GTI golf and a ford focus ST but this is by far more fun to drive. and the most important thing is it's quite a rare car you don't see many of them around I have only ever seen one not like STs or GTIs which are two a penny. one of the main things I love about this car is the fact that it looks like a standard 308 from the front so people don't expect it to be as quick as it is but boy can you have some fun in his car. I love it

Get this months evo (March) it has the n30, golf gti performance & 308 group test, probably the one you are talking about, they are all 4.5 star cars, summary result, last place golf, easiest to live with. not engaging, 2nd, 308, most entertaining of the 3, lightest, fastest, edgy, looks dull, uses the least fuel, winner i30N proper mature performance car, could do with being lighter, never feels quick.

Whilst they were graded that way, there is apparently not a lot to choose between 'em.

308 hit 100mph a second quicker than the other two despite giving away 400cc

308 looks a great secondhand buy.

Does any one know where can i get a good downpipe for my 308 gti mk2? I would like to make it sound a little bit better and give it little more hp. If any one can help put and give your suggestions. Thank you all cheers.
