Phall vs Vindaloo - much hotter?

Vodka Revolution used to do a chilli vodka years ago that was worse than any phaal I've had. I went to the bar to order it and the conversation went something like this:
me - "two chilli vodkas please"
barman "are you sure"
me "yeah, why?"
barman "just don't get any in your eyes and make sure you wash your hands before going to the toilet"

With trepidation I took them back to my co-drinker. Little fingers were dipped in by curious friends and drips placed on tongues to horrified, pained looks. Not wanting to back down, we downed them and legged it to the loos to wash out our mouths.

On our return to the bar, the barman was standing there laughing with two free glasses of milk ready.

They've toned them down a bit since then. Must be health and safety. Someone said it was tame so I tried it again. Nothing like it used to be...

I had one of those about seven years ago, went for drinks for my birthday at Revolution. People were buying me drinks all night and then somebody handed me a clear looking shot that was icey cold to the touch. I knocked it back and I was on fire! It was crazy, especially as it was so cold, it was such a bizarre sensation. Wouldn't surprise me that they had to tone it down.

i once made a shot for my friend which consisted of a teaspoon of daves insanity sauce mixed with whiskey and disarono lol. it looked foul, and probably tasted it too!

i think it didnt agree with him either, he downed a pint of milk, then disapeared into the toilet for half hour :p

i had this chilli shot in revs before. After 3 trips to the loo for my eyes and running nose i was kicked out by the bouncers, they suspected id been taking drugs. Tried to claim it was their product that had caused this, but it didnt help all my mates were calling me a crackhead while i made my plea

On topic, hot currys are nasty, wouldnt even consider. Did have a korma once that was like rice pudding so i only go afew up

I enjoy a nice Jalfrezi etc, but the really hot curries aren't nice, they're hot for the sake of it, and it kills the flavour. I bet they don't even do them anything like that in India either :p

Heat is nice, but flavour must come first.

Spicy dupiaza (rather than medium) from down tooting way > All this phaal or vindaloo crap :p

If you want a truly magnificent vindaloo that isn't just crammed full of spicy for the 'english wana be show offs' then eat at veerswamy just off Regent street. Their Duck Vindaloo is the best curry I have had at a restaurant, and the restaurant in general is just luuurvly.

N.b. Going by typical english standards a standard jalfrezi or mild madras is my limit, but that's coming from most average places that many people eat at.

It's called the Taj Tandoori. It's on Cherry Hinton road near the Leisure Park. It’s not on the menu, you have to ask for it and they make it up.

up near the junction? bugger, used to live on coleridge so would've been really close for it :P

cheers for the recommendation tho, will check it out soon

At my local curry house the Vindaloo's are nice - takes a while to get used to the heat but you do soon enough. After about 5 vindaloo's I decided to try a phall..Dam it was in another league of heat.

Heatwise i'd say: Vindaloo 7/10
Phall 10/10

Didnt really enjoy it as it was just like eating molten lava.
