Hey all,

Does anyone have one of these kits?

I'm thinking of getting one but concerned over the included cable as they also sell a premium shielded cable separately, so is it worth getting both and just using the shielded cable instead?

Does it have any impact on GPU performance, stability or anything else I've not considered?

I've got one mate. Overall a nice bit of kit, I prefer it to the Cooler Master one so gave mine away on here. I've not noticed any performance issues etc, cable pretty good considering it came as part of a kit. As the cable in separated rather than one single ribbon width, it makes moving it around and getting access to the PCI lock on the motherboard a bit easier.

The only downsides I can think of are that the cable is PCI-E 3 as far as I am aware, that the vertical mount and your GPU may block airflow to any M2 NVME SSD on your motherboard (depending on location obviously) and the fact that the GPU cannot be moved horizontally - i.e. towards the case side panel whilst vertical. I seem to recall seeing that Lian-Li were doing something that might offer that?

Overall I'm happy with it.
 
Whilst I haven't got one, I was looking at getting the vertical kit for as and when I upgrade my GPU in the PC. From what I have read there isn't anything tangible between the two cables. The only performance related issues you'd see are if you want a PCIE 4 card (ala RTX30 series) as these are only 3.0.

Other than that they seem fine!

@spacemonkey what did you end up going with in the end ?

I'm looking into this for a buddy that wants to do it in his Phantek Ecllipse P500A case, this one seems to have vertical support built into the black plate, but no cable supplied :rolleyes:...... I saw in another thread you mentioned you had a Phantek case and something about an asus cable?? may I ask which one, and did you go for a full adapter kit that fills the expansion slot area, or just the cable to use any vertical slots closer to the side panel ?

Hi mate,

I bought the kit in the first link in the OP, as the built in vertical mounts in the Phanteks cases (or any case tbh) bring the GPU too close to case side panel and thus increase the GPU temps.

The kit pushes the GPU further back towards the motherboard so you'll get better airflow etc...

I'm now using the Asus ROG Strix Riser Cable which works perfectly and the fitting mounts line up with the Phanteks ones in the case/kit perfectly :)
 
ok thanks for the info, i haven't looked yet at the clearance he'll have, I think he's got a GTX 2080ti but unsure of the make or fan configuration. I was wondering about the clearance, if the case has 3 vertical slots available, if i could make the spare one the one nearest to the case to give some extra space, and then perhaps re-direct some of the front intake airflow to run along the side panel and feed the gpu.
He's got an Arctic Freezer II 360 for the CPU, to mount in the top, so clearance isn't an issue if we do move it in with a kit such as the one you got, it's more a budgetary issue right now lol, but could still plan for it, and do it later i guess.

One question, if you have the kit above, why did you not use the supplied cable ??.... and do you still have it going spare :p:D

I sold the cable initially to get a shielded version but then sold that as I then wanted a shorter cable but Phanteks 150mm is just a tad too short, so then ended up with the Asus as Phanteks out of stock at the time, plus it looks and feels like a real quality cable :)

So nope, no spare cable :P

I've since changed to an AIO as well so no clearance issues.

Also just an FYI, if you get the bracket unit then you'll need to remove some of the little metal bars where the cables normally connect to the GPU at the back otherwise you'll not be able to fit the HDMI/DP due to the change in orientation (at least on my P600S, not sure on his case)?
 
ok thanks for the info...... now i need to go look into this "shielded vs non-shielded" cable thing, lol... thanks!!

someone's replied to my wanted thread, so i may get lucky in there, off to see what's been posted.


oh, and yes, that Asus cable does look like quality.... but i was hoping to reduce the cost, not increase it :rolleyes::D:D
