Why would you buy one regardless of reviews.... ?
I said regardless of any other reviews. I've already seen enough about them to make the judgement call.
At the Phenom II 940 BE price slot they are better value than C2Q and the AM2+ platform has a future (which may not be great) while the C2Q platform has none.
Intel are bringing in a new value platform and dumping 775.
AMD however will continue with AM3 and AM2+.
Information so far shows that they are anywhere between 10% slower and 15% faster than C2Qs clock for clock. They're expected to overclock very nicely, 4Ghz on air from anyone who has tried and knows what they are doing. They also scale very nicely as they clock up.
Pulling figures out the air here....
At my lowest expectation I should get 3.7Ghz (I'm on water) and it'll perform and match a 3400 Ghz C2Q.
At my highest expectation I'd get a 4.2Ghz clock, and it'd be the equivalent of a 4.4Ghz C2Q. There's a small chance an overclocked Phenom II 940 would beat an overclocked i7 for games, since the i7 doesn't seem to clock so well. But that's well, erm, not a very realistic hope.
Seemed to be value for money to me, so while I had the time I stripped down the PC and now I'm ready to chuck the chip in when it comes out.
